Fans have finally got some new news on the upcoming Beyond Good & Evil 2 as the game has found a new lead writer.
Sarah Arellano announced via Twitter that she is now taking on the role of Lead Writer on the Ubisoft adventure. A narrative designer by trade, her other previous projects have included World of Warcraft and the upcoming Saints Row reboot.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything on the sequel, so here’s what we know so far about Beyond Good & Evil 2.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 – what we know so far
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first teased all the way back at an Ubidays event in 2008. There, Ubisoft showed off a video with the heroes of the previous 2003 action adventure Jade and Pey’j. However, following this trailer, everything fell silent for about a decade with rumours rife the game was on hold.
The game finally returned at E3 2017. Pey’J and Jade were nowhere in sight, as this was now set to be a prequel story. The trailer introduced a new cast of characters known as the Space Monkeys, and even had an ‘ambitious’ gameplay demo released in 2018 which you can see over here.
This version too, however, would be plagued by issues. The game was first said to be releasing a beta in 2019. But alas, it seems plans were scrapped and Ancel himself would depart the project and the games industry in 2020.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 – release date speculation
It’s been relatively quiet from the game ever since until earlier this year. During an Ubisoft Q1 FY22 financial call, the publisher said it had “ambitious plans” for the game. When asked if the game would be released this financial year, CFO Frederick Duguet didn’t give a definitive answer.
“We are progressing well with Beyond Good and Evil 2, but it’s too early to tell you more at this stage” he told investors, as per PC Gamer.
Given this, and Arenello’s appointment, it may still be too early to guess a release date for Beyond Good & Evil 2. However, Ubisoft will be holding an Ubisoft Forward presentation on Saturday September 10. So, if anything is announced there, we’ll update and let you know.
