Ubisoft has shown actual gameplay footage of Beyond Good & Evil 2 in a dedicated live stream event, confirming the game has given Jade the boot in favour of offering you the chance to customise your own character.

This goes beyond just picking a male or female protagonist; you can plump for a human character or animal hybrid of any race or gender, and you’ll be able to hover around on a jetpack when you’re not hopping from planet to planet in a dedicated spacecraft.

Beyond Good & Evil 2’s combat will be a pretty diverse experience from the look of things. Aside from mixing it up on foot with your trusty staff, you can choose to engage foes in adrenaline-pumping dogfights with your ship. In addition, Ubisoft also confirmed that the game is a prequel to the original title, taking place in System 3 not long after Beyond Good & Evil protagonist Jade was born.

Much like Jade you can once again snap photographs, only this time you’ll be using a spyglass that can also be utilised to scan the environment among other things.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been a thing for a really, really long time. It was actually announced way back in 2008, although it took years for Ubisoft to actually show anything else on the game, probably because it was scrapped on PS3 and Xbox 360 and then moved to current-generation systems.

Fortunately, the sequel was re-revealed at E3 2017 although it’s still pretty obvious we won’t be seeing it in stores for quite a while yet. Expect more on Beyond Good & Evil 2 at E3 next month.
