Monolith Productions, the studio originally behind F.E.A.R., is developing multiplayer Batman FPS Gotham City Impostors. The downloadable title is coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC.

In Gotham City Impostors players battle for control of a Gotham City overrun by impostors inspired by The Joker and Batman. Maps and modes are said to take inspiration from the Batman license.

“Gotham City Impostors blows apart expectations for superhero games with an exaggerated take on first person shooters, set in a part of the DC Universe players have never seen before,” said Samantha Ryan, senior vice president, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Monolith is creating a game that turns Gotham City upside down and we think fans are going to have a blast with this creative twist on multiplayer heroism and anti-heroism as they play up the classic rivalry between Batman and The Joker.”

According to Warner the game will feature unprecedented character customisation options allowing players to create their very own Bats and Jokerz, including insane costumes, gadgets and weapons.

Our initial reaction was to shout “cash-in”, but Monolith’s involvement has made the announcement much more exciting. We’d rather the studio was working on a single-player secret agent FPS, but we can’t have everything.
