Larian’s gorgeous Baldur’s Gate 3 Collector’s Edition is a beautiful piece of kit that every fan craves, but scalpers are making the ultimate physical release hard to nab. With scalpers selling the pricey box of Baldur’s Gate goodies for thousands of pounds, players aren’t the only ones frustrated.

In addition to a copy of the game, you can also get a wealth of exclusive content ranging from themed Magic: The Gathering booster packs, stickers, a book of artwork, and more. Despite the official Baldur’s Gate 3 website still pricing the Collectors Edition at £217, scalpers are already attempting to sell them at a vastly inflated price, much to the annoyance of Larian’s director of publishing, Michael Douse.

Larian vs Baldur’s Gate 3 scalpers

To highlight the issue, Douse shared an image of the Collectors Edition being sold for a whopping £2,900 instead of its original price. “Hate scalpers, man,” he posted. “I understand how commodity works, but this CE (Collectors Edition) isn’t a commodity, it’s designed to make someone happy, not rich.”

He continues to say all the scalpers are doing is “making someone sad.” The post resulted in hundreds of frustrated fans sharing their frustrations over the inability to purchase the coveted Collectors Edition. “It’s heartbreaking,” reveals one fan.

Another adds: “It certainly makes me sad.” Larian is yet to share if it plans on making more Collectors Editions for the community to purchase. It’s clear the demand is there but with scalpers ruining any chance of fans to get their hands on a copy, the developer may have to implement a new way to stop the Collectors Edition from being sold at a vastly inflated price.

In recent years, scalping has been a hot topic with console launches and product releases being razed by resellers. Even the newly announced PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition was nabbed by scalpers to sell for over $13,000.

What next for the Collectors Edition?

If you don’t fancy forking out nearly £3,000 for a Collectors Edition, fear not. The Larian website is still taking orders for the Deluxe Edition which still comes with a number of exclusive goodies including a copy of the world map, a unique game box, and of course, a copy of the game. It may not come with all the items from the Collectors Edition, but it’s one of the few ways to get a physical copy of the game.

As for the Collectors Edition, you may be waiting a while for Larian to produce more if you’re wanting to pay a sensible price and don’t plan on breaking the bank.
