Baldur’s Gate 3 was the best game of 2023, and it has only continually gotten better since its launch thanks to frequent updates from Larian Studios. BG3 will continue to be supported throughout 2024, and the developer has teased Baldur’s Gate 3 mods support for PS5 and Xbox consoles later this year.

The key reasons Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the best games of the century are because it has fun turn-based strategy combat, it has wonderful graphics, it has an excellent story, it is full of meaningful choices, and it is carried by excellent characters that also serve as great romance options. And now, thanks to the recently released patch 6, you can play steamier tonsil tennis with your chosen lover.

Larian has done a marvelous job at supporting and significantly improving the game with new content since its full release. BG3 is already one of the best games of the century, and the addition of mods support for PS5 and Xbox consoles would be a dream come true.

The director of publishing for Larian Studios, Cromwelp, has posted on Twitter that the developer has ‘been working on a robust, cross-platform plan for mod support to be released later in the year’. Although PS5 and Xbox are not specifically mentioned, consoles are implied through the ‘cross-platform’ verbiage.

Cromwelp further said that Larian Studios ‘have a system but it needs to be tested and still requires work’. He also mentioned that fans should move to the larianstudios official Discord channel to keep up-to-date with how progress is advancing.

As for what mods across console could include, Larian’s senior community strategist, WombatMedic, posted on Discord that Larian is ‘aiming to offer modding support for things like classes, UI, customization, spells, and certain assets and game mechanics’.

Lastly, WombatMedic has said Larian plans to introduce the ‘initial stages’ of modding support in the next big Baldur’s Gate 3 patch that is ‘still several months away’. It’s possible modding support could be introduced to PC first and then consoles later in the year, but nothing is official right now.

Presumably, mods support would work similarly to cross-platform mods in other games like ARK Survival Ascended. There the mods are built and uploaded via the PC community with PS5 and Xbox players simply able to download.

While even the initial stages are ‘still several months away,’ the introduction of mods to console is something to be really excited about. It could offer even greater customization with possibly unique races from D&D lore not in the game but created by the community. To say we cannot wait would be a huge understatement.
