Assassin’s Creed Valhalla isn’t going to show off the entire European continent in the Dark Ages, because Ubisoft has taken on board criticism of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Don’t get me wrong, Odyssey is a great game. It’s also a great game, meaning that it is ginormous in scale and scope. I love to clamber up onto cliffs and snap excellent shots of the Aegean Sea, but, sometimes I feel like this:

Valhalla has almost a third of all of Ubisoft’s studios credited on its production, and its world is going to feature a little bit of Norway and the four kingdoms of England in the ninth century. Personally, the sound of that is a little daunting, given my experience of Odyssey. Yet, the developer has apparently addressed the criticism of the previous game, and won’t be doing a 1:1 replica of the country. Here’s what Malek Teffaha, head of communications for the Middle East, had to say:

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will arrive for Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia in holiday 2020.
