Embark Studios has announced its delaying the launch of its upcoming free-to-play co-op shooter, Arc Raiders.
The game’s official Twitter account broke the news to fans that the game would now release in 2023 earlier this week.
“Arc Raiders is an ambitious game, and we will be using this extra time to expand the experience and allow it to reach its fullest potential. We will be diving into more details as soon as we start to test the game more extensively with players.”
Arc Raiders – predicted release date
Interestingly enough, studio founder (and former EA exec Patrick Soderlund would offer further insight in a blog post.
“As you may be aware,” he wrote. “Embark has several projects in development. Beyond Arc Raiders, we’re also working on a team-based first-person shooter, codenamed Project Discovery. We’ve got a number of super talented people with ample FPS experience here at Embark, and the development of Project Discovery has progressed faster than we first imagined, especially over the past few months.”
The long and short of it is, that the studio has decided to let Project Discovery be their first game to market. As a result Arc Raiders is stepping out of the way to release in 2023.
Soderlund added that this Spring, the team started to “concept and prototype” a PvP focused game-mode in the game’s universe. They’re also intending to test this new mode with a sizable number of players. Ergo, and with an entire other game to make, we wouldn’t expect Arc Raiders until mid-to-late 2023 at the earliest.
Arc Raiders – what we know so far
Arc Raiders is set to be a co-operative third person action shooter, set on a planet besieged by an alien robot menace known as ARC. You play as a member of a resistance force known as Raiders.
You’ll get to wield tools and gadgets, use on the fly tactics and, we’re told, use teamwork to beat the automated foes. Working as a Squad will be important, but you’ll also have to think on the fly too and loot your fallen foes for equipment and upgrades.
Arc Raiders will launch for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store when it arrives in 2023. Check out the game’s debut gameplay trailer from last year below.
