Embark Studios’ next shoot ’em up Arc Raiders has finally had its launch window revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, and it’s taking place in 2025. Although the dev team has yet to reveal an official release date, they did announce that playtesting will take place this fall, so you won’t have to wait long to get hands-on with this exciting action-survival shooter.
If you want to join the playtest, you can request access through its Steam page. However, it is worth pointing out that this doesn’t guarantee entry into the pre-release phase. Embark Studios also hasn’t announced when it will begin, so you’ll have to wait until they officially announce it. That said, a first public Tech Test will take place beforehand, from October 24 to 27, which means you’ll be able to experience it firsthand ahead of the yet-to-be-scheduled playtest.
You’ll also need to remember that Arc Raiders will only be available on current-gen consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games store), so you’ll need to upgrade if you prefer playing with a controller. And the last tidbit of information, but certainly not the least, is that the game will not be free-to-play despite being initially announced as such. Instead, it will launch as a $40 game.
Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal said they made this decision because “a premium model is a better fit for the experience we’re building with Arc Raiders.” “This shift allows us to focus on what truly matters for this game — creating an engaging, balanced, and replayable action survival experience,” he finished.
