It seems as though we’re getting a new remake of 1992 PC classic Alone in the Dark, this time from THQ Nordic.

A listing for the as-yet-unannounced game was posted early by Belgian retailer Smartoys (as spotted by Video Games Chronicle.) While they later removed the listing, it wasn’t before it was confirmed by regular reliable horror game leaker AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem.

They purported a few more details and screenshots from the remake in their Twitter thread. According to them, it’ll feature two playable characters in regular series protagonist Edward Carnby & Emily Hartwood.

However, they’ll have entirely separate campaigns, which will overlap in parts similar to Resident Evil 2. Apparently, the game will be set in the deep south in the 1920s. It’ll also take a full survival horror-slant, rather than the point and click stylings of the PC original.

We’re also told that the story will be penned by the writer behind SOMA and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, so it’s got some survival horror pedigree behind it.

Alone in the Dark remake – what we know so far

Reportedly, the game is set to be revealed during today’s (August 12) THQ Nordic Digital Showcase event. That’s expected to kick off at 8pm UK time, where the publisher will give us the official lowdown.

It wouldn’t be the first time the classic 1992 series has been revived, of course. Back in 2008, then Atari Interactive and Eden Games attempted a modern-day set reboot of the series. That came out on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

While that game didn’t review very well critically, it still managed to top the Xbox 360 sales charts on release. It was followed by Alone in the Dark Illumination, a co-op title in 2015 which was universally panned. The series was then sold to THQ Nordic by 2018.

Hopefully then, this will mark a new start for the elder statesman of survival horror. We’ll update this hub with the official new info from the Alone in the Dark remake reveal as soon as we can.
