Atari has revealed the first details on Alone in the Dark: Illumination, the next entry in the classic horror series.

Due for release on PC this autumn, Illumination is an Unreal Engine 4-powered first-person survival action game that lets up to 4-players team up to defend themselves against the horrors that await them in Lorwich, an abandoned Virginia town under attack from the Forces of Darkness.

Each player will be able to choose one of four different character classes, including the Hunter, Witch, Engineer and Priest, each with access to their own weapons and abilities.

“Alone in the Dark: Illumination, takes the survival horror genre to the next level with new features, including the power of illumination and a cooperative multiplayer mode,” says Atari.

“To survive, players must fight through challenging missions and dynamic environments filled with blood-thirsty beasts in order to rid an abandoned town of its mysterious curse of Darkness, and free fellow playable hero characters… each armed with a unique set of special abilities and weapons.”

The ability to light up maps to create safe zones and damage enemies is said to play a key role in the title, which is being developed by new LA-based studio Pure FPS.
