2K has seemingly delisted a number of older WWE 2K titles from digital storefronts over the past few days.
The removal of the games was first spotted on Reddit, as reported by PC Gamer. A user tried searching for the games on Steam, only to find their query returned no results. According to the website Steam-Tracker.com, WWE 2K17, 18, 19 and WWE 2K20 were all removed around July 13 with little warning from the publisher. It later transpired that these games were also removed from the PlayStation and Xbox stores as well.
A minor clue could be found on 2K’s support page. Back in May, the company declared it was ending online support for the older WWE 2K games on June 30, 2022. However, there was no indication that the games would be removed from sale entirely after this date. While online features are certainly a big part of the game, they have a full suite of single player modes. Of course, some of the reasoning could be licensing issues, but for now 2K hasn’t issued an official explanation.
At the time of writing, the only two WWE 2K games available are WWE 2K Battlegrounds & WWE 2K22. Battlegrounds launched as a spin-off during the year-long hiatus following WWE 2K20‘s poor reception. The team got things back on track for WWE 2K22, and by all accounts it’s a much better game for it. Still, it’s a shame to see the older titles removed from sale entirely. Meanwhile, back in May, rumours swirled that a WWE RPG is in the works.
