There’s a seemingly endless number of Tears of the Kingdom easter eggs. Just like Breath of the Wild, TotK is chock full of little references to previous games in the series.

If you’re taking a break hunting for Tears of the Kingdom Shrines and taking on Tears of the Kingdom bosses, why not chill out and have a look at just a fraction of the Tears of the Kingdom easter eggs that are on offer.

Fi in the Master Sword

In cutscenes near the start of the game and in the memories found in Tears of the Kingdom Geoglyphs, we see glimpses of Fi, Link’s companion in Skyward Sword. In that game, the sword pulses with a faint glow when Fi communicates with Link, and at the end of the game she permanently returns to the sword. In TotK, that same glow can be seen multiple times, showing us that Fi is still in the sword after all this time.

Paraglider Fabric

When you receive the paraglider in TotK, it has an all new fabric to the familiar design of BotW’s paraglider. If you feel nostalgia taking over, you can head to the Temple of Time on the Great Plateau. Climb up to the top, where you first received the paraglider from King Rhoam in BotW, and you’ll find a chest containing the Nostalgic Fabric. Take this to the dye shop in Hateno Village, and your paraglider will be just as you remember it.

You can also obtain fabrics with designs referencing other games in the series both through playing and by using certain Amiibos, so you can rep your favourite Zelda title wherever you go.

Place Names

Across TotK’s Hyrule, you’ll find multiple places named after characters and locations from previous Zelda titles. Places like Lake Saria (Ocarina of Time), Linebeck Island (Phantom Hourglass), and Koholit Rock (Link’s Awakening) all reference specific games. Other places, such as Kaepora Pass and Tingel Island reference recurring characters, like Kaepora Gaebora and Tingle.

This isn’t close to a full list of references, so head out into Hyrule and see what others you can come across.

If you’re a prolific chef in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ve probably noticed that underneath the cooking music, Link always hums a little tune. To be specific, he hums multiple little tunes, each of which is a song from a previous Zelda title. This ranges from the main Zelda theme to iconic tunes from specific games such as Saria’s Song from Ocarina of Time, and the Ballad of the Wind Fish from Link’s Awakening.

Retro Outfits

There’s plenty of fancy armour around Hyrule for you to find, giving all sorts of buffs like weather resistance and combat bonuses. In addition to this, is a range of armour sets based on Link’s clothes in other games. TotK’s Link can wear the same clothes as his counterparts from Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and even additional items of clothing such as Sheik’s Mask and Majora’s Mask.

Divine Beast Masks

A reference to BotW, you can find hidden chests across Hyrule containing masks designed after the four Divine Beasts, each of which provides a specific buff. In addition to this, when wearing a mask, the spirit of the champion from the corresponding race will wear their own mask, reminiscent of the ones worn by their ancestors.

Since moving into Link’s house, Zelda has done a bit of redecorating. Gone is Link’s collection of weapons and shields, and in its place are a collection of pictures, each one referencing NPCs from BotW. For example, one shows a woman from an infamous BotW Shrine, where she scolds you for walking on her flower garden. Additionally, players who completed the Champions’ Ballad DLC will have a photo next to the bed upstairs of Link and Zelda with the four champions from before the Calamity.

Those are just a handful of the Tears of the Kingdom easter eggs we’ve found so far. In a game the size of TotK, with so much to explore, there’s bound to be plenty more where those came from.
