Taking on the Starfield In Their Footsteps quest? While this quest isn’t a particularly long one, it is an incredibly important main quest and will tell you a lot of of information about Starfield’s lore and where the main story will go from here. That’s why we’re here to make sure you don’t miss a thing, and will tell you exactly what’s going on and what it means for your playthrough.
You might be a ways through the game by now, but you can never have too many Starfield tips and tricks, so be sure to check them out. And if you’ve dipped your toes into building Starfield outposts, make sure you’re up to date on how to assign crew to an outpost in Starfield too. With that, let’s take a look at the Starfield Into Their Footsteps main quest.
In Their Footsteps walkthrough
Having dealt with the fallout of the attack on Constellation, you’ve spoken to Keeper Aquilus who has told you about the Unity, and sent you off to find out more about it. To do that, you’re going to have to come face to face with The Hunter, the person who killed your companion, as well as The Emissary, the Starborn who was flying the Helix ship you came across earlier in the story.
Get in your ship and grav jump to where the Scorpius ship is located, The Hunter’s ship, orbiting the planet Oborum III in the Oborum Prime system. Once there, The Hunter will send you a transmission, and after telling them that you’re here to find out more about the Unity, they will invite you to dock and come aboard. Fly up to the Scorpius, dock, and head inside, where you’ll find The Hunter and The Emissary waiting for you. You can’t use any weapons once you’re inside.
The next section of this guide contains major spoilers, so don’t read on if you’re trying to avoid them.
Talking to the two of them, they will tell you more about the Unity, and how by collecting the Artifacts and passing through it, you can be reborn as a Starborn in another universe. Each Starborn is looking to collect enough Artifacts to build something called the Armillary, which is the key to reaching the Unity. Not only that, but they reveal themselves to be alternate versions of people from your universe. The Emissary is an alternate version of your companion that died in the A High Price to Pay quest, while The Hunter is actually an alternate version of Keeper Aquilus.
Once you’ve finished the conversation, you’ll have the chance to talk to them each individually. While this is optional, we would recommend it, as you’ll learn some interesting information about the game’s story from them.
From here, they tell you that you need to learn about how powerful and dangerous the Artifacts really are, and you’ll be given two new main quests. These are the Unearthed and Final Glimpses missions. Once you’ve finished talking with them, you’ll finish the quest and be rewarded with 750 XP, as well as the Moon Base Key required to access the Nova Galactic Research Station on Earth’s moon.
