Starfield where to sell ships: The Ship Services Technician at the New Atlantis spaceport.

Where can you sell ships in Starfield?

To sell a ship in Starfield, you simply need to talk to the Ship Services Technician at the spaceport of any major city. All of the game’s many major spaceports, such as the one at New Atlantis, have a Ship Services Technician who can be found near the landing pad, and among other things, can buy your ships. There are a few other spaceports outside of major cities where you can find technicians, too, most notably those at the Red Mile and Paradiso.

Head over to one and talk to them, and then select the “Let me see what ships you have for sale.” dialogue option, which will open the ship buy menu. From here, press R on PC or the Y button on Xbox to open the sell menu. Scroll to the specific ship you want to sell and press Enter on PC or the Y button on Xbox to sell that ship. You will receive a prompt asking if you’re sure you want to sell it. Simply confirm this, and your ship will be gone and you’ll get yourself a nice amount of credits.

Like with any merchants, be sure that the technician you’re selling to has enough credits to buy your ship. If you’ve already sold enough to one particular vendor, they may run out of credits, and you won’t get the full ship’s value. In this instance, find a seat and wait for 24 hours, or 48 hours at most to refresh their inventory and credits, and then sell your ship, hopefully for a lot of money.

How do you sell stolen ships in Starfield?

If you’ve stolen a ship and are looking to sell it, you can still do that by heading to your nearest spaceport, but you’ll have to fulfil one extra step first. As the ship you’re wanting to sell isn’t actually yours, you’re required to register it before you can sell it. To do this, talk to the Ship Services Technician and open the buy menu as described above. From here, you’ll be able to register your stolen vessel, but this will require you to pay a registration fee to do so.

Once your ship is registered, you are free to do with it as you wish, including selling it immediately and raking in some more credits. Despite being required to spend credits to actually register the ship in the first place, you’ll likely make at least some profit from selling the ships, but this does make it somewhat less of an appealing money maker if you’re gunning for the life of a space pirate.

If you’re looking to take over some enemy ships so that you can sell them for yourself, then you’ll need to know all about disabling an enemy ship’s engines. For that, take a look at how to disable, steal and target ships in Starfield.

Are there any restrictions to selling ships?

There are three circumstances in which you will not be able to sell a ship. Firstly, the ship must be registered, as previously mentioned. Secondly, you are unable to sell the Frontier, the ship you receive at the start of the game. This is likely because the ship belongs to Constellation rather than yourself. Lastly, you are unable to sell your ‘Home Ship’. This is the ship that currently has all of your crew on board. Luckily, there is an easy way to change your home ship.
