Started the Starfield Distilling Confidence quest? As it should be, Bethesda Studio’s latest space-faring RPG is jam-packed full of quests, missions and story moments to enjoy. There’s plenty to do, but it’s also easy to get lost in the process. Distilling Confidence is one such mission, representing an early quest that’ll leave some players scratching their heads.

Luckily, we’re going to walk you through the Starfield Distilling Confidence quest here, giving you an overview of the main beats, and then guiding you step-by-step with a deeper breakdown. It’s not the only mission of its kind though. If you’re looking for a helping hand with the Alternating Currents quest or the Into The Unknown quest, we’ve got you covered

What is Nyssa’s Distilling Confidence quest?

Summarised, bartender Nyssa wants to create a new cocktail that she’s convinced will be a hit. She hired a hauler to deliver some rare ingredients to this end, but he was caught smuggling contraband, and his ship was impounded. Now the ingredients she needs are stuck in a Secure Storage facility, rotting away while she’s slowed down by paperwork and bureaucracy. She wants you to find a way to retrieve those supplies for her, even if you have to skirt around the law a bit to do it.

How to do the Starfield Distilling Confidence quest

First, let’s cover the basics. Here are the steps you need to carry out in order to complete the Distilling Confidence side quest.

  • Speak to Nyssa, the bartender at The Viewport.
  • Head to the secure storage unit at the back of the spaceport.
  • Get inside the secure storage unit and retrieve Nyssa’s ingredients package.
  • Return to Nyssa and give her the package.

Follow these steps and you’ll have this side quest wrapped up in no time. It’s worth expanding a bit on each stage of the operation though, so let’s go through them.

Starfield Distilling Confidence quest: The Viewport bar.

Speaking to Nyssa at The Viewport

To begin this quest, head over to The Viewport, the small bar just up to the left of the spaceport exit. You may hear some chatter about the bartender there as you pass through this initial area for the first time. Listening in will grant you an Activity.

Activities are effectively quest primers, setting up a lead or an interesting note that you can follow up on to begin a quest. If you’re struggling to find The Viewport, open up your mission log by hitting tab or options (depending on whether you’re playing on PC or Xbox Series X/S). Go to the ‘Missions’ section at the bottom and across to the ‘Activities’ tab. From here you’ll be able to select the activity to speak to the bartender, which will give you a waypoint marker to help guide you.

Once you get there, head up to the bar and speak to Nyssa. You’ll have a few dialogue options with her, but selecting “Business seems to be booming” will begin the conversation chain that allows you to pick up and start the quest. Nyssa will explain the outline we summarised above, and then ask for your help.

Where to find Nyssa’s package

You’ll find the package in a Secure Storage unit at the New Atlantis spaceport. Head back the way you came to The Viewport, towards your ship. From here, simply go past your ship, towards the back of the area. If you’ve still got the quest tracked, then a waypoint marker will help to guide you here.

The package is inside the room, in a large crate at the back.

How to Access the Secure Storage facility in Starfield

To actually reach the package, you’ll need to get through the door. True to its name of course, the facility is secure. It’s guarded by an employee named Emin, and a locked door. You’ve got a few options here.

  • First is to persuade Emin. If you know how the persuasion system works in Starfield, or you’ve started the game off with a Starfield background like diplomat, this option is a piece of cake. Even more so because his persuasion checks aren’t very high, meaning it’s pretty easy to convince him to let you inside.
  • Second is to unlock the door. You need to do this while hidden if you want to avoid being caught, but this isn’t too hard so long as his back is turned. You’ll also need to make sure you have at least one Starfield Digipick on you. Just head to the terminal to the right of the door for this option.
  • Third is to unlock the door using a keycard on the card reader to the left of the door. We weren’t able to find a card for this, but they will be out there. Knocking how to pickpocket should help a lot with this search.

Remember that for any option other than persuading Emin, you’ll need to be stealthy and avoid being spotted while you perform the actions. You can also kill Emin if you like, removing this problem, though you’ll have to make sure no one sees you perform the act.

Completing the quest

Once you’ve collected Nyssa’s package, you just need to head back to The Viewport. Speak with Nyssa again, and select the dialogue option “I’ve got a present for you.” She’ll respond with delight and take the package from you, thanking and rewarding you. This is the end of the Starfield Distilling Confidence quest.

Starfield Distilled Confidence quest rewards

It wouldn’t be a true quest without some rewards, and you’ll receive several for completing this mission. When you finish the quest, Nyssa will give you the following things as rewards.

  • Free drinks. This isn’t unlimited, but from time to time you’ll be able to stop by and get a free drink from Nyssa. This is pretty useful, as consumables like drinks can restore health and provide buffs and bonuses.
  • A glass of Supernova. This is the new drink that Nyssa was trying to make, and you get to be the first to taste test it. It’s a useful consumable, too. It’ll grant you +20 O2 for five minutes, and a 12% boost to persuasion chances for five minutes. However, your O2 recovery will decrease by 25% for five minutes in exchange.
  • Experience. On completion, you’ll receive 75 EXP. This isn’t a lot, but it’s still significant so early in the game.
  • Credits. You’ll get a handsome 2000 credits at the end of this mission. That’s a tidy little sum for a relatively lightweight effort.

That covers everything you’ll need to know about the Starfield Distilled Confidence quest. While it requires a bit of finesse, it’s nothing too overwhelming. Make sure you’re caught up on plenty of other early game basics like how to hail ships and how to get Starfield credits.
