Wondering when the Stardew Valley 1.6 release date is? Everyone’s favourite indie farming game has still got updates coming along after all these years, and the new update is set to be a big one. It’s been in development on and off for three years since the 1.5 update, and with plenty of new content available, you’ll want to know exactly when you can expect to play it.

In the meantime, before it comes out, why not check out a similar game in Dave the Diver. And if you’re interested in what Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone has been up to outside the game, our Haunted Chocolatier release date guide has all the info you need. For now, though, let’s take a look at the Stardew Valley 1.6 release date, and everything we know about it.

When does the Stardew Valley 1.6 update release?

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update is set to release on March 19 2024. Stardew Valley is famously a one-man game, with solo developer Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) creating and maintaining the game on his own.

That alone would be reason enough for an update to be a long time coming, but he’s also been working on his next game, Haunted Chocolatier, at the same time. With two games to develop simultaneously, Barone has had a lot on his plate.

Unfortunately, this is only the PC release date. If you’re a mobile or console player, there is no confirmed release date for the 1.6 update, so you’re just going to have to bide your time for now.

The Stardew Valley 1.5 update was massive, and by far the biggest since the game’s launch. But if you’re expecting another similarly-sized update, then unfortunately you’re out of luck. Eric Barone has confirmed that, while there will be some new content, ‘it won’t be huge.’ That being said, there is some major new content on the way.

A post from Barone on X (formerly Twitter) stated that the update will contain:

  • New major festival
  • Two new mini festivals
  • New late-game content expanding on all skill areas
  • New items and crafting recipes
  • Joja alternatives to end-game quests
  • 100+ new lines of dialogue
  • New reward type for completing billboard requests
  • PC support for eight-player multiplayer
  • New farm type
  • New secrets
  • Small additions and adjustments

As well as this, the update has a large focus on mods, and making the game easier to mod. Stardew Valley has one of the most active modding scenes of any indie game, and Barone is looking to encourage this by making the game more mod-friendly in future. With him working on his next game after Stardew Valley, it looks like he wants to set Stardew Valley up for the future, making sure that fans will be able to get new content when he’s no longer working on it himself.
