ConcernedApe, the creator of farming smash hit Stardew Valley, has announced he’s working on his next game entitled Haunted Chocolatier.
The game seems similar to Stardew Valley, only this time you’re trading in farm life for working in a literally haunted chocolatier. You’ll have to gather ingredients, make various chocolates and then run the business of the chocolate shop. However, there’s also going to be a lot more besides.
In describing the game, ConcernedApe (real name Eric Barone) doesn’t want to get too specific yet. “I’m not sure how best to describe it. It’s evolving organically as I develop it, so I’m not sure where it will go.” He adds “I don’t want to get too deep into at this early stage, partly because I don’t want to be tied down to any particular concept of what the game is.”
A brief gameplay video gives us some indication of what we can expect in Haunted Chocolatier. Diving into haunted paintings, fighting monsters, collecting ingredients. There’s a whole new town with NPCs to interact with, and it seems gift giving and Stardew’s relationship metagame are likely to make their return. The game’s FAQ also describes it as being “more of an action-RPG compared to Stardew Valley.”
However, Barone is keen to stress that the video makes the game seem far more complete than it is at this point. “There is a ton of content I still need to make. So, please understand that it will be a while before this game is done. I’m going to be working on it as much as I can, though.”
There’s no ETA for when we can expect Haunted Chocolatier yet, and it’s only confirmed for the PC. However, Barone notes he has “every intention of bringing it to the other major platforms as well.”
