Wondering when the Hollow Knight Silksong release date will be? Originally planned as a DLC for the first Hollow Knight game, Silksong eventually grew big enough that it made more sense to make it into a full game in its own right. And with it now being over six years since the first Hollow Knight’s release, fans are hoping to get their hands on the sequel soon.

It’s not the only major game fans are looking forward to, so check out what we know about the Fallout 5 release date as well as the Fable release date, too. For now, though, we’re here to talk about the Hollow Knight: Silksong release date, as well as the game’s gameplay and trailers.

Hollow Knight Silksong release date prediction

We expect the release date for Hollow Knight Silksong to be sometime in the first half of 2024, although this has not yet been confirmed. The game was originally scheduled for release in the first half of 2023. However, an announcement in May from Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry’s head of publishing and marketing, confirmed that the game was turning out bigger than expected and that they were pushing back the release date to ensure the game is as good as it can be.

As the game unfortunately wasn’t ready to be released in the second half of 2023, we think that it’s possible to see a release during the first half of 2024, likely towards the middle of the year in May or June. However, depending on the scale of the game and what still needs to be finished, the wait could stretch as far as the end of 2024 if we’re unlucky.

Hollow Knight Silksong platforms

Hollow Knight Silksong will be available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The game was initially billed for a PC and Xbox launch, and later received confirmation that it would be coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, too. In addition to this, we also know that Silksong will be joining the original Hollow Knight on Xbox Game Pass as a day-one release.

Hollow Knight Silksong gameplay

Hollow Knight Silksong features Hornet as the game’s protagonist, a character from the original game. Hornet is significantly quicker than the protagonist from the original, so the gameplay of Silksong appears to be much faster than the original. It also looks like players will have access to a wide number of new powers, attacks and movement options, such as using Silk to power their abilities, weapons, and traps,

The core gameplay of Silksong appears very similar to the original, with a Metroidvania style of exploration, requiring you to take on a host of new foes as you progress through the levels. Boss fights also make a return, with a cast of all-new bosses to go up against. As for specific game features, we don’t know too much yet.

As for the story, the plot sees Hornet kidnapped and taken to a kingdom named Pharloom. Here, she starts from the bottom of the new kingdom, and must ascend through it to reach the shining citadel at the kingdom’s peak, in order to find out who was behind the kidnapping.

Hollow Knight Silksong trailers

The first glimpse of Hollow Knight Silksong came in 2019 with the game’s reveal trailer. The trailer showed off plenty of gameplay footage, giving us a good look at some of the game’s new towns, enemies, bosses, and NPCs as well as combat.

The game’s second trailer came during June 2022’s Xbox & Bethesda showcase. A gameplay trailer, it was a much shorter, but gave a more detailed look at the combat, almost exclusively featuring footage of Hornet taking on a variety of enemies and bosses. It also confirmed that the game would be coming to Game Pass.

Hollow Knight Silksong development

Before development on Hollow Knight Silksong began, developers Team Cherry had originally envisioned Silksong to be a DLC for the first Hollow Knight game. However, the team realised that what they were working on was quickly becoming too large for a DLC, and made the decision to turn it into its own standalone game.

Since then, Silksong has turned into a game arguably larger than the original, with trailers noting over 150 new enemies and bosses, as well as a whole new map, and plenty of new game mechanics, like crafting.

That’s everything we know so far about the Hollow Knight Silksong release date. In the meantime, be sure to check out what we know about the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree release date and Smite 2 release date too.
