As you explore Mirogana and the wilds of Toshara, you’ll bump into doors and computers that require an advanced slicing kit, prompting you with the ‘requires Slicing Kit’ message. This special kit a souped up version of the basic slicer Kay has as default at the start of the game. Rather than an item you can buy from merchants, you’ll need to get through a chunky quest.

We’ll walk you through how to get the slicing kit so you can access. If you need a refresher on how the hacking mini game works, check out our how to slice guide.

The Slicer intel

First things first, you’ll need to find and unlock The Slicer Intel. To do this, press on with the story until you complete the Underworld and New Tricks main quests handed to you by Danka, which will make the Underworld Rumors Intel pop. Track the Intel and eavesdrop on the conversation in Makal’s Gambling Parlor by leaning on the back of the bar where you see the Listen prompt. Two syndicate goons are chatting about a slicing expert, referring to a mysterious contact, unlocking the Aila’s Contact Intel.

Talk to Aila’s contact near the crates at the centre of the landing pad in the Crimson Dawn district of Mirogana. You’ll need to sneak in via the crates to the right of the guarded entrance ramp. The area is restricted so even if you have Good or higher reputation with the Crimson Dawn, you’ll be chucked out on sight. This unlocks The Slicer expert quest.

The Slicer expert quest

The aim of this quest is to steal a code sequencer for Aila Bren. Travel to the Imperial Outpost 31 in the northwest of Southern Falls, Toshara. Use Nix to steal the code sequencer from one of the technicians at the back of the outpost. Technicians wear a light grey uniform rather than the full body armor storm troopers do.

Travel to the Imperial Forward Base in the north east of Southern Falls. As you approach, Aila reveals she’s cornered in the northwest garage of the Imperial base and Kay needs to get the sequencer to her. There’s a path that cuts through the rocks to the northeast of the compound, which is a better option than going through the main entrance. Take the path, climb the wall, then grapple across the gap and into a cave to find an air vent leading into the base.

There’s also a path on the opposite side of the entrance that drops you near the northwest garage. The area is heavily patrolled by guards so we recommend the other route.

Travel east towards the quest marker using the crates as cover. Use the console to trigger the steam from the grates, crawl through the steam, then up the climbable wall. Take a right and follow the bridge. Take out the technician and trooper ahead then use the data spike to open the door. Jump down to the garage below and meet Aila in the backroom.

She needs you to get to the antenna on the roof. Use the vent to get outside, then use the ladder on the right to reach the roof. Attach the device to the antenna. You’ll now need to disable the anti-air defences in the control tower. Take the ladders on the west side of the roof to get to ground level then climb up the stairs to the rampart and follow it round to the tower marked by the quest marker, avoiding the cameras and taking out any troopers in the way.

Enter the tower, grapple across the two gaps on your left, then deal with the soldiers in the room with the speeders lining both sides. Interact the console next to the red barrier to unlock the security door. Ride the elevator up. Deal with the trooper and officer. Access the computer to the right of the window, then complete the slicing mini game to deactivate the turbolasers.

✓ Tip

While you there, hack the console to the left of the window as well to get two Intel quests, including Vault Code.

Exit the compound. Aila will send you to Makal’s Gambling Parlor in Mirogana to get the slicing kit. Head to the stockroom at the back and talk with the same informer from the Crimson Dawn district landing pad. The contact will hand over the slicing kit.

Using the Slicing Kit

You can test out the new kit by taking on the Advanced Slicing Practie Intel that automatically pops when you complete The Slicer. It takes you to Kerro’s Speakeasy near Makal’s Gambling Parlor, where you’ll find a shielded door. It’s marked on the map and can be accessed via a vent near the corrupt Imperial officer. Use the kit on the panel to the right of the door to lower the barrier and gain access to a cache.

Unlocking The Slicer expert also gives you access to the Slice Kit Upgrade. It increases the amount of Slicing Kit Energy, unlocking Jokers, which are abilities you can trigger during the slicing mini game, including purging the number of available glyphs to make the game easier, giving you an extra attempt at solving the combination, and more.
