- To pick locks with the data spike, you need to click or press in time with with rhythm
- You can turn on a visual aid to make it easier to see the timing
- You can change the difficulty of dataspiking in settings if you’re finding it too difficult
While Star Wars Outlaws lets you roam around planets on your speeder, you’re going to be spending quite a lot of time sneaking around inside enemy compounds – you are a thief, after all. And key to that will be using your data spike to pick locks and open doors, but using the data spike is a little finickety, and takes a knack to get it right.
So if you’re struggling to understand how the data spike works, we’ve put together a quick guide to take you through it. We’ll tell you how the mechanic works, how you can pick locks, and how to change the difficulty.
How to use the data spike in Star Wars Outlaws
The easiest way to describe using the data spike is that it’s kind of like a rhythm game. The data spike will make a couple of pulses in a consistent rhythm, and to pick the lock, you need to click or press the right button on your controller in time with the rhythm. For example, if the pattern is silent, and then you hear two quick beats, you need to click twice in time with those two quick beats – it sounds complicated, but makes much more sense when you do it.
The game has a Visual UI helper that you can turn on by opening the ‘Help’ menu, and pressing the prompted button. This will show a ring on your screen when the beats pop up, helping you visualise the pattern if you’re struggling to hear it.
You can also change the difficulty of dataspiking in the settings. This is going to be a big help if you’re not enjoying dataspiking from the start, as it only gets harder and harder as you progress through the game.
