Venom is a hot topic in Spider-Man 2 for PS5, the character’s secret identity remains a secret, and theories are running wild right now. Candidates include Harry Osborn, his father Norman, and even Peter Parker himself. However, are you going to be able to play as Venom in Spider-Man 2?

The first game only had three playable characters – Spider-Man (Peter Parker, if you weren’t sure), Mary Jane Watson, and Miles Morales. However, the Miles Morales game only let you play as the titular Spidey. What can we expect from the long anticipated sequel?

Will Venom be playable in Spider-Man 2?

At the moment, we have had no confirmation about what characters are playable in Spider-Man 2. Aside from Miles Morales and Peter Parker, we’re still awaiting news on whether others such as MJ and Venom will fall under our control.

Based on the game’s promotional trailers, we’ve already seen that Peter Parker is going to be wearing the infamous Symbiote Suit. Fans of Sam Raimi’s films will remember this alongside Peter Parker’s iconic ‘evil’ dance.

This screenshot is taken from one of the promotional trailers for Spider-Man 2, and shows Peter Parker’s Spider-Man adorned in symbiote tendrils. This lends support to the idea that you’re going to be playing as a symbiote in the game, though it doesn’t necessarily confirm whether or not Venom will be in the game.

If you’re familiar with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, or Ruben Fleischer’s Venom film, you’ll know that ‘Venom’ as a character is formed when someone fully merges with the symbiote. Usually, this isn’t Peter Parker as he is able to resist the alien’s bondage. Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson, on the other hand, have canonically been far less likely to reject the symbiote’s advances and so have become known as Venom.

In most media depictions, Venom is brutal and powerful, which would be infinitely fun for Insomniac Games to transfer over to their Spider-Man engine. It’s a longshot, and it’s not quite clear whether or not it’s happening, but they’d be missing out on a brilliant trick here.

Something we’re actually interested in is whether or not Carnage is going to feature in Spider-Man 2, and who the Spider-Man 2 voice actors are going to be. The Spider-Man 2 release date is only around the corner now, so we’re all waiting with bated breath for more information. We’re going to be publishing our Spider-Man 2 review when the embargo passes on October 16th, so stay tuned for more.
