The Tactical is a versatile class, namely because of the spread of it weapons it has access to. The Transhuman Physiology team perk and Auspex Scan class ability are also a boon to any squad, granting a major boost to Contested Health regeneration and making scanned enemies more vulnerable to damage, respectively. This versatility and utility means that the Tactical class can be tooled to fill in several roles, from a high DPS skirmisher to a horde controlling powerhouse by way of a close-range Melta Rifle expert. We’ll walk you through the best Tactical build we’ve come across so far.
Tactical build class perks
Perks | Description | |
---|---|---|
Core Perk 1 | Balanced Distribution | Primary Weapon deals 10% more Damage, but your secondary weapon deals 10% less. |
Core Perk 2 | Relentless Pursuit | Your damage increases by 35% for 5 seconds after performing a Gun Strike. |
Core Perk 3 | Emperor’s Vengeance or Final Shot | Emperor’s Vengeance grants 1 magazine after filling a Majoris level or higher tier enemy type once every 30 seconds. Final Shot grants an insta-reload upon executing an enemy. |
Team Perk | Transhuman Physiology | All Squad members have 30% more Contested health. |
Gear Perk 1 | Priority Targeting | Auspex Scan lasts 8 seconds longer but ignores Minoris enemy types. |
Core Perk 2 | Battle Focus | A perfectly timed parry gives the parried enemy a mark from Auspex Scan. |
Core Perk 3 | Expert Timing | Enemies marked by Auspex Scan take an additional 100% Damage, but the mark’s Duration is reduced by 4 seconds. |
Signature Perk | Radiating impact | A melee finisher additionally deals significant area-of-effect Damage. 90-second cooldown. |
The general idea behind the build is flexibility when it comes to weapon choice: Melta Rifle, Plasma Incinerator, and Bolter. The Plasma and Melta chew through magazines quickly, so ammo regen is covered by Emperor’s Vengeance. But, the Bolter benefits more from Final Shot, for the instant reload so you can keep fighting.
Balanced Distribution is a trade-off but worth it as you’ll be using your primary 99% of the time. Relentless Pursuit promotes pulling off prefect parries with a massive damage boost after every Gun Strike, especially useful against Majoris-class enemies. You’ll want to run a Fencing weapon to make parrying easier and get the most out of this perk.
Transhuman Physiology is a must have as it gives every squad member 30% extra Contested Health, which increases survivability, especially if you’re running Operations missions on higher difficulty settings. Expert Timing further boosts the effectiveness of Auspex Scan. Squad up with a Sniper with the Squad Renewal perk, which restores 10% ability charge for every headshot, and the combo is lethal. You can chain Auspex Scans for a constant damage buff.
In terms of Gear Perks, Priority Targeting extends Auspex Scan window by 8 seconds. The scan will ignore Minoris-class enemies, but the trade-off it is worth it as Auspex is rarely all that effective on Minoris swarms anyway. It also mitigates Expert Timing’s scan mark duration reduction.
As for your Signature Perk, Radiating Impact is the best of the bunch. The melee finisher helps with swarm clears and pairs well with the Auspex Scan ability when dealing with elites and bosses.
Tactical build weapons and weapon perks
Slot | Weapons |
---|---|
Primary Weapon | Plasma Incinerator, Melta Rifle, Bolt Rifle with the Grenade Launcher |
Secondary Weapon | Chainsword |
The Plasma Incinerator, Melta Rifle, and Bolt Rifle with the Grenade Launcher are all viable picks when playing the Tactical class. Take your pick based on your playstyle. The Melta Rifle is more of an up-close-and-personal pick, while the other two are mid-range options.
Grab a Chainsword set to Fencing as your secondary weapon. This will make landing perfect parries easier so you can follow up with Gun Strike and proc the Relentless Pursuit class perk for extra damage. Stick to the bottom row of weapon perks.
If you’re running Plasma Incinerator, unlock the bottom row of perks. You’ll get better charge time and cooldowns, increased charge damage, and consume less ammo per charge. You’ll also get more projectile speed to make landing your shots much easier against targets moving awkwardly. Melta Rifle players will want to invest in the top row of perks. to unlock damage modifiers and projectile speed increases.
If you go for the Bolt Rifle with the Grenade Launcher go for grenade launcher tier variants and aim for the bottom row of perks. These grant better stats against Tyranids, better spread with rounds, and better magazine capacity. Magazine capacity is important because you can spray much longer into hordes and elites. The grenade launcher is also handy for staggering, ensuring you can get the best hits possible.
