In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, maybe no bug type Pokemon have as much defensive potential as Tarountula and Spidops do. However, at the end of the day they’re still bug type Pokemon, which means they get taken out way too easily when facing either a flying or fire type.

What many players don’t know, however, is that it’s possible to use the nature of their Pokemon to influence their stats as well.

We’re here to go through the two best natures you can look for in a Tarountula when you’re bug catching out in the wild.

What are Natures in Pokemon?

As soon as you catch a Pokemon and check it from the pause menu, you’ll notice they’ll also tell you what the nature of the Pokemon you caught is. That’s because its nature, instead of being superficial, influences many factors of that Pokemon.

In addition to determining many other things about your Pokemon, it also increases a specific ability by 10% while decreasing a different ability by the same percentage. You can find out all about it in this ultimate Pokemon nature guide.

Relaxed

As mentioned above, Tarountula and Spidops have a very high potential for being the tank of your party. Because of all the weaknesses they have, however, they end up getting wiped out quickly.

That’s where the Relaxed nature comes into play. When pitted against Pokemon that are physical attackers instead of special attackers, Tarountula and Spidops will be able to last for much longer, giving you the chance to set up in any way you want. That may be by decreasing the enemy’s stats, healing your own Pokemon, or by poisoning the enemy and then waiting it out.

When keeping this playstyle in mind, the 10% decrease in speed won’t really be too much of a handicap either, as you’ll be able to last longer regardless.

Jolly

If waiting it out isn’t your preferred way of playing in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, then let us introduce you to the Jolly nature. Instead of setting up, this nature is better for players who would rather blitz the enemy because of the 10% increase in speed it gives.

However, these two Pokemon having this specific nature is a bit of a gamble because of their below average attack stat. However, there are instances where you can deal some heavy damage right at the very start, like with the Skitter Smack move. Of course, if the enemy Pokemon is weak to Bug-type attacks, then that’ll increase your chances of coming out on top.

As for what this nature decreases, Jolly nature Pokemon will see a 10% decrease in their special attack stat. Although this will decrease the number of moves you can use if you want to deal decent damage, the increase in speed more than makes up for it.

Although Tarountula and Spidops are both very good for the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet early game, most players will find themselves removing them from their party eventually. However, picking either one of these natures will assist you in getting through some of the more difficult early game battles.
