Combee and Vespiquen are two such older Pokémon. Unfortunately, when looking at them from a battling standpoint, they really aren’t anything special. However, by being a little more strategic in terms of what nature we pick for them, we can make them a MUCH greater asset to our party

After careful consideration, we’ve concluded that two natures will be the best for Combee and Vespiequen, depending on what the player wants to focus on.

What is Nature in Pokémon?

Although almost every Pokémon player knows that every Pokémon is assigned a nature after they get caught, what some of them don’t know is that nature is more than just a superficial attribute.

Instead, what nature a Pokémon is assigned determines multiple factors affecting your gameplay, with the most important being that many natures increase a specific stat by 10% all the while decreasing another stat by the same amount.

Because of this, it becomes possible for players to have a little more power when it comes to building a specific type of party or focusing on a specific stat for a Pokémon.

Bold

The first nature we recommend for Combee and Vespiquen is the bold one. Although these two Pokémon don’t have good attack stats in the first place, their defense stats are more than respectable.

Therefore, building Vespiquen to be a tank Pokémon as opposed to an attacker might be a good idea. The bold nature will increase the defense stat of your Combee and Vespiquen, all the while decreasing the attack stat by 10%.

Because of this, you’ll have one of two options. The first will be to teach your Pokémon some highly damaging special attack moves to use against the enemy. The second will be to teach Vespiquen moves that inflict effects such as poison, and then wait it out. Recover is a move that will be invaluable for both of these options.

Calm

If you instead want to build your Vespiquen as a special attacker, then going for the calm nature is your best bet. With the 10% increase in special attack, as well as highly damaging special attack moves such as bug bite, you’ll be able to take advantage of the Pokémon’s above-average speed stat to get a good first hit in.

Although this nature will decrease your Pokémon’s defense stat, because Combee and Vespiquen already have respectable numbers on that specific stat, you won’t feel the 10% decrease too much.

Final Thoughts

Although Combee and Vespiquen are fan favorite Pokémon at this point, the fact of the matter is that they’re only decent as beginner level Pokémon. As soon as you hit the mid to late game, chances are you’ll end up replacing them for Pokémon that don’t have as many weaknesses and can actually pack a punch.
