Is there a preload for Payday 3?
Yes, you can preload Payday 3, but only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Game Pass app. This means you can only download it on Steam and the Epic Games Store once the early access period begins or after the release date has kicked off.
The game’s official Twitter account confirmed the lack of a preload period for specific PC platforms. One of the team’s posts stated that “Xbox/PS5/Windows Store will have an option to preload, but unfortunately this will not be available on Steam or EGS.” Naturally, most of the reactions below the message were disappointed, as the lack of a preload window for a couple of the most popular PC gaming apps is a rarity nowadays.
Some users speculate that Starbreeze Studios didn’t enable preload because of the early access period set to take place a few days before launch. Like Baldur’s Gate 3’s early access phase, a preload similarly wasn’t available as Steam doesn’t support this feature for Early Access titles. This is because “switching to pre-load would break the game” for those playing during the pre-release period, so it may have been a similar case with Payday 3.

You’re going to need to free up 46GB of space on your PC, Xbox, or PlayStation for the Payday 3 download size. We confirmed this via the Xbox Game Pass listing for the game, which has stated a download size already. Luckily, when games are launching taking up nearly 100GB+, Starbreeze Studios have instead given players a little more chance to get their games installed without needing a new SSD.
