If you’re like us, you’ll be initially confused by the lack of Town Portal scrolls in Path of Exile 2. We are so used to having a few of them around from the first game, that there was a gaping hole in that one-square inventory slot where we liked keeping them. It turns out that teleporting back to town is more streamlined this time around, even though it can be easily missed at first glance. We’ll explain why.

How to teleport back to town in PoE2?

The days of hoarding Town Portal scrolls are over. In Path of Exile 2, you can teleport back to town any time and for free, by clicking the portal button in the lower-right corner of the screen, right next to the first row of skills (aka mouse skills). This is easy to miss and the game doesn’t really inform you of that. So just clicking the button will have your character channel the spell to summon the portal. You now have to click on the portal to go through. The best part – you can do it during combat too, to replenish your flasks for example, just be mindful of the short casting time.

Now, to add to the troubles, there is no default keybind for the Town Portal spell. We were perplexed at first, but you can easily fix that as well. Open the Options (the cog icon) and select the Input tab. Scroll all the way to the bottom and you’ll see that the last binding is called “Create a Portal” and is “Not Set” by default. Simply choose a button that fits your preference. We bound ours to Y, since it was available, handy, and wouldn’t unbind something else.

✓ Pro Tip

Since they’re free now, you can use portals to set up in advance if you expect a tough fight. For example, you can set one up ahead of time when you see a large pack and use it to escape to heal up and replenish flasks. Similarly, if you’re facing a tough group of mobs, you can make some distance and open up a portal to regroup. Note, however, that you can’t open a portal during a boss fight.

Hopefully, you’re now a master of timely returns to sell and replenish. While taking a breather, check out our crafting guide for Path of Exile 2, as well as our dive into how to refund passives or how to disenchant items.
