There’s a variety of currencies in Path of Exile 2, though not nearly as many as in the first game. Still, they can be overwhelming to anyone just coming into the dark aRPG. While they’re no longer used to barter with traders, these currencies are nonetheless important – especially for crafting items. We’ll go over all of the currency items in the game, their base components, and even some end-game pseudo-currencies. Let’s begin.
What are currency items in PoE2 and what are they used for?
Currency items are mainly used for crafting and modifying gear in Path of Exile 2. Before, in the first Path of Exile, they were used for bartering with NPC traders and other players, but the sequel has introduced Gold as the main trader currency. You can still use currency items to barter with other players though, especially once the auction house goes live. That means that their main (though not only) value will be in crafting and optimizing your gear, thus potentially increasing your power level.
List of basic crafting currencies in Path of Exile 2
Basic currencies can be found while exploring the game’s world and come from monster drops, loot chests, breakables, and so on. Some are more rare than others, thus increasing their overall value, and each can be used in some way – usually on items.

List of advanced and pseudo-currency items
These currencies can often be found later in the game, usually during end-game content. Some can still be found earlier in the world, but require interaction with specific mechanics to obtain.

Transmutation Shard | Orb of Transmutation |
Chance Shard | Orb of Chance |
Regal Shard | Regal Orb |
Artificer’s Shard | Artificer’s Orb |

Conclusion
Our list is not exhaustive by any means – we are sure there are plenty more currency items to be discovered. We will expand the list with any new findings as we progress through Path of Exile 2. In addition, based on previous years, we’re positive that GGG will add even more currencies to the game as time goes on.
