Want to know more about the new Hanaoka map in Overwatch 2? Each new season of the game lets Blizzard pack in the content for fans to enjoy. Season 8 is no different, with tons of new stuff to check out.

Season 8, titled The Call of the Hunt, has plenty to offer. From the new hero Mauga being released, to new hunt-themed skins available in the Season 8 Battle Pass. But even with the new content in Season 8, there’s still more to come. If you’re looking for details about Hanaoka, we’re here to give them.

What is the new Hanaoka map in Overwatch 2?

Hanaoka was first teased during BlizzCon 2023, as a way to bring the fan-favorite Hanamura map back into the game. The new map is a spiritual successor to the original Hanamura, being set in the same city just a street away.

The map was designed for the new Clash mode that was also teased during BlizzCon. Since Assault was removed from the game in the jump from the original Overwatch to the sequel, Blizzard has been working on a revamped version, which is where Clash comes in. Hanaoka is the first map designed for the mode, where players will fight for control of five different capture points across the map.

Many players were sad to see both Hanamura and Temple of Anubis removed from the game as they were designed for the Assault mode. They were both beloved maps that many fans loved. With Hanaoka coming, players can once again enjoy the beauty of them.

When is Hanaoka’s release date?

Unfortunately, we don’t know when Hanaoka will be released yet. Large updates such as new maps are typically released with seasons, and because the Season 8 update didn’t include the mode and map, it may be coming in Season 9.

However, since there’s no official date for it, any time is possible. We’ll update this article once more is known.

If you’re feeling nostalgic

Even though the maps have been removed from the lineup in Overwatch 2, you can still enjoy the original Assault maps in custom settings or in the arcade. These include Hanamura, Temple of Anubis, Volskaya Industries, Paris, and Horizon Lunar Colony.

Hanaoka design

Being just a street away from Hanamura, Hanaoka also features the beautiful cherry blossoms and architecture found in the original. The map is in Tokyo, Japan, and will look familiar to those who spent lots of time on Hanamura in the first Overwatch.

Unfortunately, not much is known about the map’s design besides the general theme of the map. We do know that it will feature five capture points in a line, starting at the spawn point and stretching across the map to the enemy’s spawn. This is the setup for the Clash mode.

That’s everything you need to know about the new Hanaoka map coming to Overwatch 2. Be sure to check out all skins in Season 8 to know what goodies you want to earn this season.
