Whacking trees and ore nodes with a pickaxe is fun and all, but boy is it slow, so you’ll want to pivot to power tools as soon as possible to greatly speed up your farming runs. In comes the drill and chainsaw, which will make easy work of trees and nodes, netting you big ol’ hauls for very little effort.

But, to craft these handy tools you’ll need a Storage Battery. Sifting through all the formulas, menus, and materials that make up Once Human can make figuring out how to get this portable power source tricky. We’ll walk you through how to get and use a Storage Battery.

How to craft a Storage Battery

To get a Storage Battery, you’ll first need to unlock the Electrical Kit skill in the Memetics skill tree. Hold O to open up the cradle, tap Memetics on the left, then select the Logistics tab at the top. Scroll down to the tier 3 Ascendance skills and unlock the Electrical Kit for x5 Meme Point ciphers and x700 Energy Link by tapping F. The skill gives you access to the Storage Battery formula along with other electrical gadgets like a Switch, Alarm, and Dynamic Sensor.

How to use a Storage Battery

By itself, a Storage Battery is pretty much useless, but when paired with a power tool, it becomes a serious heavy lifter during farming runs. To get started, you’ll need to have unlocked the Chainsaws Memetic found under tier 3 in the Infrastructure tab, costing you x5 Meme Point ciphers and x700 Energy Link. This unlocks the formula for the Logging Chainsaw, which requires a Storage Battery. You can also grab the Electric Drills skill (x7 Meme Point ciphers and x2000 Energy Link) as well if you fancy speeding up ore mining with an Electric Rock Drill.

Head back to your Intermediate Supplies Workbench, tap the Tools tab at the top, and select either the Logging Chainsaw or Electric Rock Drill. For the sake of example, we’ll go for the chainsaw, which requires x35 Steel Ingot, x20 Refined Part, x20 Electronic Part, x20 Fireproof Plastic, and x1 Storage Battery. Craft the tool by tapping F once you have all the materials.
