The Solar Drill is a memetic specialization in Once Human that drastically speed up the harvesting of ores. In practice, this means less time spent hitting rocks and much higher yields than even the best pickaxes. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to get the Solar Drill in Once Human.

How to get a Solar Drill in Once Human

To get the Solar Drill, you’ll need to unlock the memetic specialization of the same name. Given that specializations are randomised, you may need to wait until you reach the next tier to unlock it if it doesn’t show up among the options. Once you’ve got the specialization, here are the steps you’ll need to follow to use the drill:

  • Unlock the Electric Kit memetic recipe, located under Solar Generation in the Logistics tab.
  • Craft the Solar Drill at an Assembly Bench.
  • Craft a Storage Battery – x15 steel ingots, x20 rubber, x20 acid, and x10 electronics.
  • Craft the Solar Drill – Special Parts, Electronic Parts, Metallic Parts, and x20 aluminium ingots, x40 tungsten ingots, or x60 gold ore.

The ore you decide to use to craft the drill affects its attributes. Using tungsten ingot increases the yield of the drill, while gold ore increases the yield further. Aluminum increases the productivity of the Solar Drill. You want to make the drill out of gold to maximise the amount of materials when farming ores.

When you have a Solar Drill in your inventory backpack, drag it to your action bar. Press the number corresponding button to pull the drill out. Approach a mining node and then start using the drill to very quickly extract ore and deplete the node. Be aware you need to charge the drill in daylight first before you can use it. Its battery lasts a long time, so don’t worry too much about running out of power.
