Base building is a important part of the Once Human experience, acting not just as a base of operations but also as a crafting hub. Whether you want a cozy shack with a great view or a towering HQ that doubles as a factory pumping out all manner of materials, finding the right place to call home is important. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the best base locations in Once Human.
Our top picks for the best base locations
Before we go any further, it doesn’t matter all that much where you build your base in the early game. You first base is more or less a glorified tutorial and onboarding sandbox for you to get up speed with the mechanics that make up Once Human. Once you reach the late, base location matters and needs to take into account reliable access to oil, stardust, water, and acid. Here are the best locations we’ve come across:
Location | Resources | Coordinates |
---|---|---|
Northwest Blackfell Oil Fields | Stardust corruption and oil | 5211, -1355 |
River island, east of Blackfell | Oil and water | 5769, -1494 |
South Blackfell Oil Fields | Water and oil | 6339, -1855 |
North of Fort Eyrie | Stardust pollution | 3431, -2393 |
Eastern Blackfell Fallen Zone | Stardust pollution, water, and startrace ore deposits | 4570, -1516 |
Evergreen | Stardust pollution and water | 4604, -2372 |
The best base locations are around the Blackfell Oil Fields. The area has access to stardust pollution and oil along with water in certain areas. Getting access to these three major resources will make surviving a whole lot easier. However, don’t fret if you can get all three. Typically, you can get memetic specializations that allow you to produce two, and convert one of these into the third.
Best oil bases
The best base locations in Once Human for oil production are around the Blackfell Oil Fields, particularly to the north, all the way up to Securement Silo-Theta. There are also spots that border polluted areas so you can double up. If you’re not fortunate enough to get one of these locations, there are large oil areas to the south and by the river to the east. Black patches of ground indicate oil spills. Placing water pumps on them will extract 1 barrel of crude oil every 5 minutes, which you can them convert into premium fuel at refineries in your base.
Best polluted bases
Polluted zones allow you to harvest vast quantities of stardust and polluted water to make acid, which is needed to craft ammo along with weapon parts. Collect polluted water, process it using an Osmosis Filter to get impure acid, and then place the processed acid into a brewing barrel to make acid proper. If you get the memetic specialisation called Stardust Water Pump, you can also pump Stardust. Stardust Source is used to craft items at the Synthesis bench. You can also calibrate your weapons with Stardust Source, which is important when taking on late-game dungeons. Here are several prime polluted areas for your base:
Location | Coordinates |
---|---|
Blackfell Oil Fields | 5059, -1396 |
Evergreen | 4597, -2499 |
Fort Eyrie | 3520, -2332 |
Blackfell Fallen Zone | 4567, -1524 |
White Cliff | 4570, -1516 |
You can also generate a lot of power from polluted areas that you can use to power logging and mining operations. Residual Filters or Deviation Energy Generators turn polluted areas into huge power farms. You can get around 40 KW from each unit.
