Wondering what the penalty for offensive chat is in MW2? You’ve come to the right place. Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard recently partnered with AI company Modulate to curb the toxicity of in-game lobbies and voice chats.

While the news to use AI for moderation came as a shock to the game’s community, toxicity has been a persistent issue in the game’s history, so much so that surveys dubbed the Call of Duty fanbase as the most toxic in gaming.

The AI moderation tool that Activision has employed to moderate chats in MW2 is called ToxMod. This tool can identify behaviours like harassment, discrimination and hate speech in real time.

ToxMod is currently running in beta on Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone with, “A full worldwide release” (excluding Asia) set for November 10 alongside Modern Warfare 3 (2023).

For now, ToxMod is not taking any action on offenders but will submit data reports to Activision’s human moderators who will then take the appropriate action.

“This new development will bolster the ongoing moderation systems led by the Call of Duty anti-toxicity team, which includes text-based filtering across 14 languages for in-game text (chat and usernames) as well as a robust in-game player reporting system,” said Activision in a blog post.

While it’s unconfirmed whether Activision will allow ToxMod to ban or suspend players for toxicity, that could actually be the case after MW3 releases in November and you can find out everything you need to know from our Modern Warfare 3 release date guide.
