Outlaws of Thunder Junction’s EDH precons have had a varied response so far, and now that the full Quick Draw decklist is here, it’s had its due critique. While the Most Wanted deck has disappointed a few, the Thief potential for Grand Larceny decks has excited the rest. Quick Draw’s Commander, Stella Lee, Wild Card, is the focal point of this deck, an Izzet Human Rogue who’s going to make life very difficult for your opponent by burning and reusing sorceries.
Don’t commit just yet
We’d advise holding off on picking up this deck until the full card list is revealed. While we know it’s an Izzet Exile deck, the rest of the unrevealed cards will make or break the Quick Draw precon.

Expressive Iteration |
‘Stella Lee, Wild Card’, like ‘Gonti, Canny Inquisitor’, teases another Theft-themed deck in the Outlaws of Thunder Junction set. While the Grand Larceny decklist is a lot more forward with its archetype, Quick Draw leans more subtly on many of the same tactics.
The main draw with Stella Lee, though, is exile. This makes a lot of sense considering the synergy between Izzet decks and exile-themed builds, and you’re going to see this precon take on others within the Izzet color combination. ‘Uvilda, Dean of Perfection’ and ‘Nassari, Dean of Expression’ are two of the most commonly used Commanders when it comes to Izzet Exile decks, though you can expect Stella Lee to put up a good fight for all of the Outlaws now. Sol Ring is a near guarantee in most precons these days too.
Quick Draw deck upgrade suggestions
When it comes to upgrading the Quick Draw deck, you’re going to want to consider a few key card types: Humans, Exile-centric, and Theft.
With Stella Lee, you’re going to be duplicating sorceries and instants you own, while also playing cards from the exile zone. This Commander precon is going to encourage burning and reclaiming cards often, so you’re going to want to make sure that you have enough artifacts and sorceries to make it work.
With cards like Cerulean Wisp, Refocus and Twister Fealty, you’re going to be able to push out consistent turbo attacks that are going to give you a huge advantage in the early-game phases. You might want to top up the deck with cards like Dramatic Reversal and Scepter, which are both much better options than Jolt – a one trick pony.
How to play Stella Lee, Wild Card
The strategy that seems most likely with Stella Lee is playing fast. The benefits of playing cards from exile, alongside cloning cards, means you’re going to be able be a round ahead of your opponent at all time. As long as you’re careful not to mana screw early on, this deck is going to be a handful for your opponent to deal with.
One issue to consider with this deck is Summoner’s Sickness, which you’re going to be slightly at risk of falling victim to. Since you’re going to be playing fast, summoning cards from your hand, the exile pile, and cloning cards, you’re definitely going to be at risk of leaving yourself defenceless.
Quick Draw FAQ
Is Quick Draw ready for competitive EDH?
Realistically, none of MTG’s precons are ready for competitive play out of the box. You’re going to need to play around with upgrades and adjustments before you can commit to competitive play with the Quick Ready deck especially. Consider other Izzet archetype decks to build off, specifically ones focused on plenty of spells in the early-game phases.
Is Stella Lee a good Commander in MTG?
Compared to a few other Commanders in Outlaws of Thunder Junction, the Quick Draw deck’s leader has had a pretty warm welcome. While the card is nothing extraordinary, nor groundbreaking, it does rethink how early you can go for autokills in Magic.
