Wizards of the Coast recently revealed the first Outlaws of Thunder Junction spoilers as part of the upcoming launch. Magic: The Gathering has been filled with new sets in the last couple of years, and after the MTG Fallout collaboration hits table tops, it’s the Western themed set next.

So far, some of the revealed cards have sparked massive interest, alongside pre-release discounts making it even easier to get hold of Play Boosters. Now that we know what the sets most expensive and valuable chase cards are, you should know what you’re getting into. Here’s the spoilers and card list for MTG’s Outlaws of Thunder Junction so far.

MTG Outlaws of Thunder Junction spoilers

These are the core cards featuring in MTG Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The Raised Foil Vault Frame print of Sword of Wealth and Power looks like it could very easily become one of the most expensive cards from this set.

Textured Foil ‘Breaking News’ cards

Some of the Texture Foil cards in this set look equally impressive too, with absolutely scintillating artwork defining these prints. On top of that, many of the card design choices tap into literary inspiration: Thoughseize‘s design looks heavily influenced by journalistic writing, while Crime & Punishment is a direct nod to Dostoyevsky’s novel.

Lands in Outlaws of Thunder Junction

The spoilers for upcoming Land cards in MTG’s Outlaws of Thunder Junction set are fairly simple and won’t fail to fit in nicely to your library.

Outlaws of Thunder Junction Card List

  • Oko, the Ringleader (Standard, Wanted)
  • Tinybones, the Pickpocket (Standard, Wanted)
  • Thoughtseize (Breaking News, Textured Foil Breaking News)
  • Crime // Punishment (Breaking News, Textured Foil Breaking News)
  • Hell to Pay (Extended Art)
  • Sword of Wealth and Power (Standard, Vault Frame, Raised Foil Vault Frame)
  • Fblthp, Lost on the Range

Not many cards have been revealed for Outlaws of Thunder Junction just yet, though we’re anticipating many more reveals in the next few weeks. Realistically though, the dust has yet to settle on the buzz around MTG Fallout, so we’re going to need to wait for that to finish its time in the spotlight first.

What Outlaws of Thunder Junction cards are worth looking out for?

Whether you’re competitive Magic player, or you’re simply interested in collecting cards with beautiful foils and memorable art, there’s a few Outlaws cards you’re going to want to keep an eye on. We have a more comprehensive list on the sets best cards here too.

Oko, the Ringleader (Wanted Poster)

One of the Planeswalkers in the set, Oko, the Ringleader is a powerful card with the ability to copy a target creature at the beginning of combat on your turn. Subsequently, you control them until the end of the turn.

Aside from the cool mechanics the card introduces, the art is simply stunning and evocative of the Western influences on the set. Definitely look out for this card if you can.

Sword of Wealth and Power (Raised Foil Vault Frame)

Likely to become one of the best artifacts in MTG, this card gives +2/+2 to target creatures, alongside protecting them from Instants and Sorceries. This is an incredibly potent card on its own, though when you factor in the psychedelic art adorning it, it certainly looks like it’s going to be valuable.

Outlaws of Thunder Junction Themes

Outlaws Of Thunder Junction is heavily inspired by the Wild West. Cowboys, horses, and dueling at high noon are all present in the setting. It is a set that features various villains from all across the multiverse, all trying to find a treasure located on the plane.

While there are villains included in the set, other characters have found their way onto Thunder Junction such as Fblthp and the face of the Omenpath arc Kellan, the son of Oko who is one of the main characters of the set.

Outlaws Of Thunder Junction veers heavily into Western tropes, from forming posses to cowboy hats and boots. There’s a heavy focus on crime, being a new mechanic created for the set, which we’ve also touched on in our Grand Larceny decklist. Villains are the focus of the set, with it being said that this is a “set for the villains of the multiverse,” so many named characters will likely find their way onto the plane for various self-interests and schemes.

Outlaws Of Thunder Junction Commander Themes:

Like every Standard set release, Commander decks are also releasing a part of Outlaws Of Thunder Junction. These use different themes and cards that may not reflect what’s in the main set. There are four Commander decks, Quick Draw which is focused on spellslinging, Desert Bloom built around discarding lands and bringing them back, Grand Larceny, a theft deck that helps you generate extra mana, and Most Wanted that makes Treasure tokens. Quick Draw and Desert Bloom both feature new characters, but Grand Larceny features Gonti from Kaladesh and Most Wanted is led by Olivia from Innistrad.

Outlaws of Thunder Junction Analysis

One of the new mechanics introduced in Outlaws Of Thunder Junction is crimes. A crime is a spell or ability that targets either an opponent or anything they control (such as their spell, permanent, or graveyard). There are many cards in Magic that cause you to commit a crime, so enabling cards that benefit from committing a crime are easy to activate.

Included as a part of Outlaws Of Thunder Junction is a bonus sheet called Breaking News. This is a set of cards not legal in Standard, but are legal in Outlaws Of Thunder Junction’s Limited formats as well as Historic and Timeless for Magic: The Gathering: Arena players. Breaking News cards are all ones that commit a crime. For example, Thoughtseize is a part of the Breaking News bonus sheet as it targets a player, meaning it commits a crime.

Breaking News isn’t the only bonus sheet included in Outlaws Of Thunder Junction. The other bonus sheet is called The Vault. Originally, this was planned to be an Epilogue set titled The Big Score, but this idea was scrapped due to the overwhelmingly negative feedback that the first Epilogue booster March Of The Machine: The Aftermath received. Rather than scrap the product altogether, the cards from The Big Score were repurposed and included in the main set of Outlaws Of Thunder Junction as another bonus sheet, found in the same slot that cards on The List are. Unlike Breaking News, cards on The Vault are legal for Standard play (and by extension, all other formats).

There is another new mechanic in the set – plot. Currently, little is known about what plot does. The only revealed card that interacts with plot is Fblthp, Lost on the Range which lets you plot nonland cards from the top of your library. What is known is that plot is an alternate cost, not an ability. This is similar to the foretell mechanic from Kaldheim, which lets you play the spell for its printed mana cost or for an alternate price if you pay with a different cost (in Outlaws Of Thunder Junction’s case, its plot cost).

The Outlaws Story So Far

Outlaws Of Thunder Junction is the conclusion of the Omenpath arc. The star of the arc is Kellan, a half-Fae and half-Human originally from the plane of Eldraine. His birth father was unknown until his mother revealed that it was the Faerie planeswalker Oko who had since gone missing from Eldraine.

Afterward, Kellan set out on a quest to find his father, finding an omenpath in Eldraine and traveling across various planes, joining up with different factions in his search. Kellan visited Ixalan and Ravnica after leaving Eldraine, and eventually found himself at Thunder Junction.

At Thunder Junction, Kellan finally comes face-to-face with his father, and (at least temporarily), Kellan joins up with his father and his scheme.

On Thunder Junction, an old vault was discovered with many across the multiverse wanting a piece of the treasure buried inside. Oko teams up with a gang of various outlaws from all around the multiverse. In Oko’s gang is Tinybones (from Dominaria), Vraska (Ravnica), Rakdos (Ravnica), and Annie Flash (a new character for Thunder Junction). Together, they all aim to find the vault and reap its rewards for the biggest score of their lives.

Prior to the Omenpath arc, the Phyrexian invasion across the multiverse occurred. As a part of this, Vraska was compleated and turned into a Phyrexian. However, sometime after her fall during the invasion of Ravnica, her body was converted back to her normal self, though the details of how that happened are unknown (though heavily implied that Jace, her love interest had something to do with it).

Most of the non-native characters on Thunder Junction are from different planes, traveling there via omenpaths. Many of these characters are villains, all of whom want the ancient treasure buried within the plane.
