The pre-release of the latest Magic: The Gathering set has almost passed, and we’re nearing in on the paper release for the entire set. With the set’s spoilers having already been here for a while now, and pre-sales having kicked off too, we have a pretty good idea of what the most expensive MTG Outlaws of Thunder Junction cards are already.

✓

It’s a fairly tame set of cards

There are no serialized cards in the Outlaws of Thunder Junction set, so there’s nothing particularly expensive or mindblowing to be found anywhere.

What are the most expensive MTG Outlaws of Thunder Junction cards?

9. Jace Reawakened – Mythic: $15.90

The ninth most expensive card listed as part of the Outlaws set is the regular Mythic version of the Jace Reawakened card. Without anything particularly ‘unique’ about the card, it’s more the fact that it’s such a powerful and beloved Planeswalker that makes it such a heavily sought after chase card.

The Outlaws story brings Jace back into the forefront of the Magic mythos, and this card is one of its many interpretations fetching a high price.

8. Tinybones, the Pickpocket – Showcase: $16.57

Tinybones, the Pickpocket is another of the Showcase cards launching with Outlaws of Thunder Junction, though not too many of them have actually ended up in our list. The variant, though it might not clearly indicate a few things (mana cost, specifically), is a good looking little card and is going to spruce up any deck it ends up in.

7. Final Showdown – Extended Art: $17.84

The Final Showdown card is one of the most heavily anticipated cards from the paper release, and we’ve also included it very high up in our thoughts on all the best cards in the Outlaws set.

The Extended Art card edition shows off more of the gruesome scene, with emphasis placed on the dead bodies at the bottom of the art. Not only that, but the high price of this chase card partly goes down to board wipe ability of the card – potentially letting you carve out an easy win for yourself at the cost of seven mana.

6. Terror of the Peaks – Mythic: $17.27

Terror of the Peaks features twice in this list too, as does the Jace Reawakened card and Oko, the Ringleader. This variant finds itself on the list of the most valuable Outlaws of Thunder Junction chase cards through pure merit, rather than a fancy or rare art cover. With a fairly inexpensive mana draw for the card’s abilities, Terror of the Peaks is going to become an absolute menace to deal with considering it eats up three life whenever it’s targeted.

Similarly, on entry of other creatures, Terror deals their damage equal to that creature’s power to any target, which is another extremely annoying ability.

5. Goldvein Hydra – Extended Art: $17.94

The Goldvein Hydra is another one of the expensive cards hitting Magic: The Gathering’s Outlaws of Thunder Junction set. While in early game phases it’s going to be quite an unassuming card, late on you’re going to be able to summon it with your wealth of mana resource that’s going to improve its power and defence by X. If your opponent does manage to defeat this creature, it’s going to leave behind a number of tapped Treasure tokens, a valuable resource if you’re in need of a sacrifice.

The card itself features an extended art cover, a factor that is seemingly instrumental in its value.

4. Jace Reawakened – Borderless: $22.22

The Borderless variant of the Jace Reawakened card features a detailed and fully rendered depiction of one of Magic’s most important characters. Jace’s hand creeps out of the card’s constraints, tapping into the 3D effect popular with many of MTG’s newest cards.

3. Terror of the Peaks – Extended Art: $22.83

Terror of the Peaks features twice, this time the Borderless variant is the star of the show. It’s art is fantastically detailed, vibrant, and is an example of the classic Magic art style that’s become so popular these days. Still though, for me it’s not the card’s uniquity or style that is fetching its high price, but the broken and unstoppable combos possible with its abilities.

1 & 2. Oko, the Ringleader – Borderless: $24.25 / Showcase: $30.87

We’ve chosen to include these two card variants as a single entry for an obvious reason – they’re the same card, save for the glaring differences in design.

Oko, the Ringleader, is a new Planeswalker who had only been introduced into the Magic universe as of 2019. Nearly five years on, the character is getting its first technical refresh, shifting shape (eh!) from the Thief of Crowns to the Ringleader.

Now, it’s abilities include spamming the battlefield with powerful tokens, alongside cloning tokens that directly copy existing permanents. Paired with equally powerful creatures, this card is definitely going to enable some powerful plays. Add on the fact that it’s available in a gorgeous Showcase variant and you can clearly see why this is the most expensive card in the entire Outlaws of Thunder Junction set so far.

That’s as much as we have on the most expensive Magic: the Gathering cards from the Outlaws of Thunder Junction set. The set is still in pre-release, so expect many of these presale prices to shoot up when the paper launch hits on the final release date. We saw a very similar response to MTG Fallout’s chase cards – some of which are now worth nearly two times as much as their presale listings.

What is the rarest card from the Outlaws of Thunder Junction set?

While the Oko, the Ringleader card is the most expensive card in the entire set, it’s not necessarily going to be the rarest. Cards such as Lotus Ring and Mindbreak Trap are seeing reprints as part of the set, and will likely be incredibly hard to come by.

Does Outlaws of Thunder Junction have any serialized cards?

Outlaws of Thunder Junction won’t feature any serialized cards. Though the concept has only recently been introduced into Magic culture, Outlaws won’t feature them. We saw them in the Fallout Bobbleheads and the Ravnica City card treatments recently, and Wizards of the Coast would be wise to listen to their audience and not flood the market with artificially ‘valuable’ cards.
