How To Capture Monsters In Monster Hunter Rise

When given the opportunity, it’s best to capture monsters as it will increase the number of rewards obtained, as well as provide a chance to gain more materials, money, or points at the end of a mission. Capturing a Monster, however, is more than simply clicking a button in Monster Hunter Rise. You will have to fulfill the following conditions.

1) Damage The Monster

To capture a Monster in Monster Hunter Rise the first thing you’ll need to do is damage it to the brink of its HP.

The game doesn’t give you an indicator of your enemy’s remaining HP so you’ll have to instead depend on visual cues to identify whether this condition is fulfilled. These cues include the Monster starting to limp or running back to its nest. Alternatively, your Palico companion will also notify you of when a Monster’s health is low enough for capture, though this message is brief and easy to miss.

2) Set a Trap

After this, you will have to set a trap for the Monster. Setting a trap in Monster Hunter Rise is easy; simply use the trap item in an area with enough space. Electroshock traps are preferred as they set faster and take up less space though, alternatively, you can use Pitfall traps as well. The type of trap you choose should also depend on your target and its vulnerabilities.

Once either of these is set, it cannot be deactivated, moved, or picked up, so make sure to place it carefully and meticulously. Keep in mind that if a trap of a certain type has been used on a large monster before, it will become resistant to that type of trap, and if it falls into the trap three times, it becomes immune to that type of trap.

3) Throw Tranq Bombs At It

As the last step for capture, you will have to sedate your trapped Monster. Once you’ve caught your Monster in a trap, you’ll notice it squirming and struggling. At this point, time will be of the essence to complete the capture.

Quickly bring out your tranq bombs and throw a sufficient amount at the Monster. You can craft these using Sleep Herbs and Psrashrooms. It is also important to stay close to the trapped monster to ensure the capture is completed successfully.

What If The Monster Escapes?

If the Monster escapes your grasp and goes back to sleep in its nest, fear not! You haven’t squandered your opportunity to capture it yet.

When this happens, all you have to do is set up a trap for the Monster to wake up into. Simply place your Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap under the Monster as it sleeps and throw tranq bombs at its face to wake it up. Soon as it wakes, the Monster will likely fall into your trap, and capture will be complete!

Final Thoughts

Monster Hunter Rise allows players to capture a Monster as an alternative to slaying them. To do this, you will have to first lower its HP. Once this is done, immobilize the Monster using a trap and sedate it with tranq bombs. Even if it escapes, don’t fret! You can still approach it in its nest and try to trap it there.
