Since Modern Warfare 2019, the Modern Combat series got a fresh reboot from Activision. Some fan-favourite actors from the Task Force 141 members were recast and new characters were added to the franchise. So let’s take a look at the confirmed characters we know are in Modern Warfare 3.
Captain John Price

It’s almost impossible to discuss Call of Duty without mentioning the name – Captain Price. Price has been a fan-favourite character who has been confirmed to return in Modern Warfare 3 (2023). The character has always been a protagonist in Modern Warfare games and he’ll be returning once again as a protagonist in Modern Warfare 3.
Vladimir Makarov

This infamous character is considered by many to be the franchise’s best villain. Makarov made his first appearance in Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and has since lingered in the minds of players due to his heinous ambitions. He was also a discreet antagonist in the first Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare before becoming the main villain in Modern Warfare 3 (2011).
Activision has now confirmed through a dedicated character trailer that indeed, Makarov will be the main antagonist in Modern Warfare 3. The iconic, yet detested villain is back in the franchise after nearly 15 years.
Modern Warfare 3 character predictions
Modern Warfare 2 ended on a high note but left us with just enough of a cliffhanger to know there’s a whole lot more to come. A lot is being kept under wraps in regard to the characters for Modern Warfare 3. So here are the unconfirmed characters that are likely to return in November.
Simon ‘Ghost’ RileyÂ

Similar to Price, Ghost is one of the franchise’s most beloved characters after playing an integral role in Modern Warfare 2 (2009). Many unforgettable moments from the original MW2 involved Ghost and we would be happy to see Price’s second-in-command soldier back in Modern Warfare 3.
Kyle ‘Gaz’ GarrickÂ

While he’s not the most beloved, Gaz is known for his unfailing loyalty and as Price’s right-hand man who will stop at nothing to see a mission to the end. After making an appearance in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Gaz went on to become an integral character in Modern Warfare (2019).
Johnny ‘Soap’ MacTavish

Soap is yet another important character that players would love to see return in Modern Warfare 3. He first appeared in the first Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and has since been a critical part of Price’s special Task Force 141, along with Gaz and Ghost.
Colonel Alejandro VargasÂ

Colonel Alejandro Vargas is the leader of Los Vaqueros, respected friends of the Task Force 141 in Modern Warfare 2’s campaign. He’s a strong and important person who also acts as a reliable cavalry for Task Force 141 when things go south.
General ShepherdÂ

Many players will recognise Shepherd as a controversial character in the Modern Warfare series. His shocking betrayal in Modern Warfare 2 (2019) made him an infamous character, especially after laying waste to Ghost.
Just when we thought the character has changed with the reboot, Shepherd is still a sneaky backstabber who likely cannot be trusted. But, surprisingly, despite his betrayal once again coming to pass as it did in the original, he remains alive and at large in MW2. We expect him to return and uphold his negative reputation in MW3.
Phillip GravesÂ

Just like Shepherd, Graves is a character known for betrayals and controversy. He became a part of the Modern Warfare series in Modern Warfare 2’s campaign and has since left his mark for a potential return. Despite his apparent death during the MW2 campaign, he subsequently returned as part of MW2 and Warzone Season 5. Will this new canon stick in the campaign? We’ll have to wait and see.
Farah Ahmed Karim

Commander Farah Ahmed Karim was a main character in Modern Warfare 2019. She made a comeback in Modern Warfare 2’s campaign but didn’t leave much of an impact due to her minimal role. After picking Taskforce 141 over her brother Hadir, we expect Karim to make an appearance in Modern Warfare 3.
Alex Keller

Keller first appeared in Modern Warfare 2019 as part of the CIA’s Special Activities Division. He worked with Farah Karim’s Urzikstani Liberation Force to fight against Roman Barkov’s regime. Considering how MW2’s campaign ended, we could be seeing Keller once more in Modern Warfare 3.
Modern Warfare 3 is set to launch on November 10, 2023. We usually get new characters with every new Call of Duty game, so you should expect to see some new faces when Modern Warfare 3 launches.
For now, Season 5 is underway and it’s been intense. So intense that you might not survive alone, so be sure to check out how to get the dog in Modern Warfare 2 so you have a trusted and tactical companion to watch your back.
