Whenever playing Franchise Mode, you should always be aware of the best players to sign and trade for in MLB The Show 24. Building up or maintaining a team is hard, and getting the right players is the most important part. Thus, signing and trading for players is the best way to make your team a good one. Here are some players that you should be on the lookout for.

There are a few things you should be looking for when searching for key pieces to your franchise. First, age is so important. You might be tempted to trade for Gerrit Cole since he is a 95-overall player. However, he’s 33 and could be exiting his prime.

Contract also matters. Some long contracts are totally fine to take on even if they’re lucrative, but it might be disastrous to try and trade for Corey Seager since he makes about $33 million per season.

Zach’s Tips

Team control, whether it’s in the form of a signed contract or the arbitration years, is one of the best things to pay attention to as well. One-year rentals are cheaper, but you run the risk of sending assets for someone you aren’t keeping long-term.

Corbin Carroll

Corbin Carroll is a young superstar, which means he has lots of team control and a pretty cheap contract and a very high ceiling. He’s already a 91 overall, and is likely going to continue getting better and better. The Diamondbacks franchise won’t want to part with him, but he should be on your radar.

Luis Robert Jr.

Luis Robert Jr. is an absolute superstar, an 89 OVR already. The White Sox haven’t signed him to an extension yet, which means he’s a much easier player to get. He’d cost a haul of top prospects, but he’s a franchise cornerstone that dynasties are built out of. Of the best players to sign and trade for in MLB The Show 24, Robert is maybe the smartest move.

Bo Bichette

Bo Bichette is in the same exact boat. He’s an 89 OVR shortstop who hasn’t been extended yet. The Toronto Blue Jays will have to pay both Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the cover athlete, and Bichette at the same time, so you might be able to convince them to let you alleviate some of that pressure.

Ha-Seong Kim

Ha-Seong Kim can play pretty much anywhere in the infield, is very young, and is very good. The San Diego Padres star is an 88 OVR, and since they’re in the middle of a semi-rebuild, they might be inclined to swing a trade.

Nolan Jones

The Colorado Rockies are bad, and they don’t have much of a future in line. Nolan Jones would by default be that, and they could do a lot worse. However, the 88 OVR outfielder would fetch them a nice return and give them the prospects needed to rebuild, so it’s worth a shot.

Randy Arozarena

The game is often not like the real sport, but the Tampa Bay Rays floated Randy Arozarena in trade talks. They might not extend him, and the 85 OVR outfielder would make a fantastic addition to any team, so it’s worth looking into. He’s one of the best players to sign and trade for in MLB The Show 24.

Zack Gelof

The Oakland Athletics are baseball’s worst team. The sad fact that their best player is a 78 OVR proves that, but it means they’re likely not committed to anyone. Gelof is their best player, so the second baseman could be a fine addition to your team that wouldn’t necessarily cost an exorbitant amount.

In terms of free agency, the 2025 class is pretty stacked. So if you simulate one season, there will be stars aplenty available. Here’s who you should be keeping an eye on during that time period:

  • Juan Soto – 91 OVR
  • Gleyber Torres – 85 OVR
  • Willy Adames – 84 OVR
  • Shane Bieber – 81 OVR
  • Pete Alonso – 90 OVR
  • Corbin Burnes – 88 OVR

That’s all for the best players to sign and trade for MLB The Show 24 (many of whom we are looking for for our franchise playthrough), but be sure to check out the server status, whether or not it’s on PC, and crossplay capabilities!
