One of this game’s most enjoyable aspects running a franchise, and you need to know the best teams to rebuild in MLB The Show 24. Franchise mode allows you to do a lot of things, such as running your favorite team or picking a bad team to rebuild. The latter is challenging but incredibly rewarding. Here are some bad teams that are good rebuild candidates.

Best teams to rebuild in MLB The Show 24

There are several teams we believe are good choices if you’re aiming to rebuild a team. They are:

  • Cincinnati Reds
  • Kansas City Royals
  • Chicago White Sox
  • Colorado Rockies
  • Pittsburgh Pirates
  • New York Mets
  • San Diego Padres
  • Los Angeles Angels

Here’s why we believe these teams are the best teams to rebuild in MLB The Show 24

Cincinnati Reds

The Reds were almost a playoff team last year. They have a deep farm system and tons of stout young players. Elly de la Cruz is perhaps the most exciting young player in baseball, so who wouldn’t want to rebuild around him? They also have some decent pitchers in the rotation and bullpen, all of whom are rather young. The pieces are in place for a rebuild, all you’d need to do is guide it.

Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals are in the middle of a rebuild, and they have one key piece that makes them a better option here than most: a cornerstone star on a long contract. Bobby Witt Jr. is both very young and very good, and he’s under contract for the next 11 years in Kansas City. It makes it a lot easier to build when you know you have that one player.

Chicago White Sox

Do the White Sox have a young star that can be extended and made into the cornerstone? They do in Luis Robert. They also have a couple of other solid young pieces like Eloy Jiminez and Michael Kopech. They just got a haul of prospects back from the Dylan Cease trade, so they’re in a good spot for you to take over and turn them around and potentially win the AL Central.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Much like the Royals, the Pirates have their cornerstone locked up for a while. Bryan Reynolds is under contract for the foreseeable future, and you could build around him. Fortunately, Pittsburgh also has other key pieces. Ke’Bryan Hayes is one of the best young infielders and starting pitcher Mitch Keller is locked up for a long time, too.

New York Mets

The New York Mets underwent a rebuild last year by offloading talent. There’s a lot of money coming off the books in 2024 and they have a pending free agent in Pete Alonso that could help fix the minor leagues for them. It’s a good time for you to get in and make those moves.

San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres just got back a haul of top prospects (seven of them) for Juan Soto, so they’re a good team to take over. They also have Fernando Tatis Jr. and veteran Xander Bogaerts, two premium players, signed for the next decade or so, so you have the pieces to make a strong lineup and starting rotation and get them back to the postseason.

Zach’s Tips

The key here is just to find a team that’s not good. The better their farm system or the younger their stars are, the easier the rebuild will be. However, any bad team can be rebuilt, especially in a video game.

Los Angeles Angels

The reason the Angels are a fun rebuild candidate is because the actual team has been unable to do it for over a decade. They had Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani and couldn’t do it, so you can try to do what seems impossible. The AL West is a good division, so you might have some difficulty there in this era.

Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies are a prime rebuild candidate for the sole reason that they’re just bad. They don’t have the cornerstone pieces yet, but it could be fun for you to find them and build through free agency. They haven’t been to October in a while, so you could be their savior!

Detroit Tigers

The same logic applies to the Tigers. They’ve been bad for a while, but they do have some young players that might end up as good MLB stars soon. Before they do, you can take over and guide them to the promised land.

Best Teams for Franchise Mode

The best teams in franchise mode are different from the best teams to rebuild. Those teams are usually bad or mediocre, but the best teams are decidedly not. With that in mind, if you want to take over a good team and make them great or continue a dynasty, here are the best teams to do that with.

Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles have the league’s top-rated farm system with tons of future stars. They also won 101 games last year. They’re one of the best teams in baseball and they also have an immensely bright future. You could control them for decades and form a genuine dynasty.

Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers just won the World Series. If there’s a better team to pick up based on recent success, we haven’t seen it. They have tons of star players under long contracts, so they should be contending for a while.

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees have a history of great success, last year’s 82-win season notwithstanding. They also have Gerrit Cole, Aaron Judge, and Juan Soto. Those players are the core of any good team, and you can take over and ensure Soto remains a Yankee for the foreseeable future.

Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves have the deepest lineup in baseball and they have all their young talent locked up for a long time. You could almost put them on auto-pilot and watch them become a dynasty in MLB The Show 24.

Houston Astros

They’ve been to seven straight ALCS. If there’s a team that would be so much fun to take control of, it’s got to be the Houston Astros. They have a loaded roster full of young stars, so they’ll continue to be good for a while.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Freddie Freeman. Shohei Ohtani. Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Mookie Betts. Will Smith. Walker Buehler. That’s all you need to know for why the Los Angeles Dodgers are a great team to pick for franchise mode.

Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have been to two straight NLCS, and they have a roster with plenty of talent locked up long-term. You can take control and get them over the hump to the World Series.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays have young talent and great pitching. They also have some interesting financial decisions to make soon, so it might be a fun challenge to pick them up and see how you can make it all work out.
