While there are plenty of legitimate ways to make groschen in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, a spot of thievery is often a lot quicker. Alongside lockpicking, Henry can pickpocket unsuspecting villagers, guards, and nobles for all manner of loot and groschen.

Much like lockpicking, picketpocketing is styled as its own mini-game that requires quick action and a bit of luck to master. There’s a chance of getting caught, of course, but with a bit of practice, you’ll be siphoning valuables like a pro. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to pickpocket in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Pickpocketing explained

The pickpocket mini-game consists of two phases. Once you’ve found a target, approach them slowly from behind and aim your cursor at the pouch on their belt and hold down the ‘Rob’ button prompt. This will start the first phase, where you’re searching the victim’s pouch – the time-collecting phase. You’ll see a circle with a number ticking up at its center, denoting the time you’ll have to steal items in the second phase. The higher the number, the more time you’ll have.

In the top-right of the circle, you’ll see a marker, which represents the minimum amount of time you need to steal items. To complicate matters, you’ll also need to pay attention to the color of the background behind the numbers. The more red it gets, the higher the chance the victim will pick on your antics and call you out. Blue means you’re safe. Make sure to stay near your victim as you’re searching.

Once you reach a high enough number without getting caught, let go of the Rob button and you’ll enter the second phase. This is timed and you’ll need to navigate the slots with question marks or items on the dial, grab them, then go back to the door icon at the top to pull out your hand and successfully steal the items. On the right is a meter detailing how much time you have left along with a red portion that shows up whenever you reach an item that signals you how much stealing time you’ll use up for taking a specific item. If the timer runs out before you reach the door, you’ll be caught.

Lastly, victims sometimes have two pouches: one at the front and one at the back. The front one is much trickier to steal from and the chance of being caught is increased. On the steal dial in the second, the items in the top half represent the pouch you aimed at in the first phase, while the bottom half is the other pouch.

Practice pickpocketing

If you fancy a no-stakes crash course in pickpocketing free of the fear of committing a crime, you can head over to Lower Semine Mill in the Trosky Region. There, talk to miller Kreyzl, then after a bit of hard labour carrying sacks, he’ll suggest talking to hired hand Hensel who you’ll find around the mill. Hensel will teach your the ropes of takedowns and picketpocketing, allowing you to practice as much as you want on him.

How to improve your pickpocketing skill

Other than simply pickpocketing as much as possible to increase your Thievery skill, you can spend perkpoints on specific perks, as follows:

SkillEffect
Nimble FingersWhen in the time-collecting phase of the pickpocketing mini-game, you’ll gain time 10% faster.
Rapid FlightIf you fail to successfully return through the doorway box during the thieving mini-game, you won’t steal anything, but your victim won’t notice you. After using the perk, the effect will have a 3 minute cooldown before it can be used again.
InconspicuousThe person you’re robbing may not see you, so you can reach even into their front pouch, but while you’re rummaging through their pockets, they might still feel your presence.
