Will Tekken 8 be the last Tekken?

It’s impossible to say, especially before we know the game’s full story, but we think that it’s incredibly unlikely that Tekken 8 will be the last Tekken. With Heihachi out of the picture following his death at the hands of Kazuya in Tekken 7, Tekken 8 seems to have set up a final showdown between Kazuya and his son Jin to finally put an end to the war between the Mishima Zaibatsu and G Corp.

Fun Fact

Tekken holds the world record for the longest continuous video game story. The story in Tekken 8 is the latest instalment in a storyline that began with the original game back in 1994.

However, while it looks like we might be barrelling towards a final conclusion to the story, we simply can’t see that happening. Tekken 7 completely revitalised the series, bouncing back from the low sales of Tekken 6 and Tag Tournament 2 to sell over 10 million copies and become the series’ most successful title to date. Combine that with all the additional DLC it sold, and Tekken 7 has undoubtedly made Bandai Namco a pretty penny.

So it wouldn’t make sense from a business standpoint to simply end the series just as it enters a new golden age. While Tekken 8 could see the end of the story that has been running since the original Tekken, it would undoubtedly be replaced by a new one for future Tekken games – and that’s if the story comes to an end at all.

So to cut a long story short, regardless of how the story turns out in Tekken 8, we think that it’s almost impossible that Tekken 8 would be the final game in the series. Long live the King of Iron Fist Tournament!

That’s all you need to know about if Tekken 8 will be the last Tekken. Take a look at the Tekken 8 character list to see who is set to be on the roster, as well as the Tekken 8 DLC to see who is coming in the Season Pass.
