PC Fans of the NBA 2K series are justifiably worried about whether they’ll be a Next Gen version on PC. We saw the NBA 2K Next Gen debut with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with the 2K21 edition back in 2020. However, the enhanced version wasn’t released until two months after the last-gen versions came out, meaning PC players missed out big time.
In a nutshell, the past three PC editions of the NBA 2K series have felt like a second thought compared to consoles. While PS5 players got graphical enhancements and new gameplay features, PC players got near to nothing! With the launch of NBA 2K24 coming up, fans are understandably concerned about whether they’ll be stuck with the older version of the game. Will NBA 2K24 be Next Gen on PC?
Things don’t look good, though nothing’s been confirmed. Features like upgraded graphics, new gameplay features and cross play will be exclusive to current gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. While we’re yet to hear official confirmation from 2K Games, we’re fairly sure they would have made a big deal out of it if NBA 2K24 would be Next Gen on PC. The crossplay announcement saw no mention of this feature rolling out to PC, and 2K has even confirmed that their most exciting innovation would only be available on PS5 and Xbox Series S|X: “ProPlay delivers animations and movements via on-court NBA action for a generational leap in authenticity on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.”
The news is even more frustrating given that FIFA 23 managed to match current-gen performance for FIFA 23. It’s definitely alienating for PC players. Though the dramatically undemanding system requirements are nice for those with older PC builds and Steam Decks, holding the PC version back for four years is a real shame.
Ahead of the launch, it’s definitely worth being aware of the performance differences between console and PC. It’s still worth checking out the pre-order editions, but definitely choose knowing that the PC performance will be quite a bit behind the consoles.
