Obsidian is back with Avowed, yet another hulking RPG from the minds behind the likes of The Outer Wilds, Fallout Las Vegas, and Pillars of Eternity. It’s been compared to Skyrim, though Obsidian has tempered expectations, describing it as more contained and confined with an emphasis on rich storytelling. There are companions, a dynamic combat system, a rich world to explore, and plenty of NPCs to talk to. All in all, it’s promising stuff, which makes us wonder whether a launch on the Nintendo Switch is on the cards.

As it stands, we currently don’t know and there are no confirmed plans for Avowed to launch on Switch. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything we know about the likelihood of Avowed ever making its way onto the Switch.

Is Avowed releasing on Switch?

Neither Obsidian nor Xbox have spoken a word about Avowed releasing on Nintendo Switch, on launch day or later. There’s been no mention of Nintendo’s console in trailers, announcements, or news blasts. Never say never, though, as we did see The Outer Wilds, Obsidian’s previous RPG, land on Switch two years after it launched on PC and other consoles.

However, given the Switch’s aging hardware and the negative reception to The Outer Wilds’ Switch port, it’s highly unlikely Xbox will fork out the cash or want to dedicate the resources needed to do the same with Avowed. The graphical downgrade to achieve reasonable performance would be too significant in our opinion.

But, with the Switch 2 on the horizon, we could potentially see Xbox decide to make the most of the new console to port over a version of Avowed. The upgrade to the underlying hardware may line up more with Avowed’s technical and performance demands than its predecessor. This is pure speculation so take all this with a mountain of salt. Either way, there’s been no official confirmation.

As it stands, if you do fancy jumping into Avowed, it will have to be on PC, Game Pass, GeForce NOW, or Xbox Series X|S.
