There’s a couple of important tips to keep in mind when faking passing. The first is that you can be driving or standing and don’t have to be in a set position to pull it off. So if you’re moving around the wing or are posted up outside the paint, you can simply press those two buttons at the same time and your player will execute a unique fake pass motion.
In addition, using your left stick while performing the fake pass will give you control for the direction you want to complete your fake pass towards. Naturally, the point of this control is to not only shift a defender out of your way by selling your pass fake towards a certain direction, but it’s also to distract any defenders that are possibly guarding a player you’re looking to pass to. And if you want to give the idea that you’re passing it to a certain area, you can direct your fake pass with your left stick when doing so.
To top it off, it’s important to keep in mind that the fake outs will come and go quickly. So if you sell it well and the defender bites, take advantage of the open window right away so you can capitalize on your pass or drive to the hoop.
