While the latest Helldivers 2 patch brought plenty of buffs and nerfs, you might be wondering about a new name – Fog Generators. Here’s what they are and what their health and armor buff means.
What is a Fog Generator in Helldivers 2?
Fog Generators are how the 01.000.300 patch notes from Arrowhead Game Studios have referred to Spore Spewers, the massive glowing mushrooms responsible for the green mist across missions. They can be taken down for bonus XP during missions and spawn Shriekers, the game’s flying bugs. After diving back into an operation for Super Earth, we can confirm that they indeed take longer to destroy now. It wouldn’t have been a surprise had the developers stuck to the term players had grown accustomed to.
What’s the best way to destroy Fog Generators after the update?
While regular assault rifles and shotguns can still destroy a Spore Spewer, its higher health means that explosive weapons are a better pick. The R-36 Eruptor Rifle, Quasar Cannon, and the PLAS-1 Scorcher are good choices despite some nerfs. You can also rely on a supply weapon like the Autocannon or EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank. I’d avoid the RS-422 Railgun though as it isn’t particularly effective in this scenario. You don’t need to call in the best stratagems like an Eagle Airstrike or Orbital Laser here. Save those for tougher enemies like Bile Titans and Charger hordes.
Remember that bug breaches often accompany Spore Spewers. These can bring out all kinds of foes like Hunters, Scavengers, and even a Hive Guard. While you can choose to shut down the Fog Generator first, it can be a hassle with all the little enemies running about. Clear them out with a high fire rate weapon or a stratagem if they get in your way. That should let you get to the Spore Spewers or Fog Generators and take them down in Helldivers 2. Instead, you can also use the Laser Cannon or Quasar Cannon to knock them down from a distance.
