  • Get Thalamus by growing Origin Seeds obtained at digging spots in Chaos Gates.
  • Chaos will give you an Origin Seed if you meet them in the underworld after a run on the surface.
  • One Origin Seed yields two Thalamuses after seven encounters.

When I was hunting for the Thalamus in Hades 2, I thought I’d get it from a boss, considering it’s technically part of a brain. Turns out, you can grow them at the Crossroads with Origin Seeds. You’ll need Chaos’ assistance and like their boons, this will cost a bit of your health. It’s an essential resource to push the story forward with an incantation that helps you survive on the surface. Here’s where you should look for Origin Seeds and how to grow them into Thalamuses.

How to get Origin Seeds and grow Thalamus in Hades 2

To get Origin Seeds, you’ll need to interact with digging spots inside a Chaos Gate. To increase the chance of dig spots spawning, make sure to equip the Silver Spade tool at the Crossroads before starting your next run. Chaos Gates start appearing in the underworld after a couple of runs in Hades 2. If you enter a Chaos Gate after attempting to survive on the surface, Chaos will give you an Origin Seed for free.

One Origin Seed in a soil plot yields two, though you’ll have to wait seven encounters (chambers/locations cleared) to harvest them. You can also pass the time in the Hot Springs or tavern. If you want more, sacrifice a sliver of health to enter a Chaos Gate and use your spade on a digging spot if one spawns.

How to use Thalamus in Hades 2

The resource is primarily used to brew the Unraveling a Fateful Bond incantation, essential to prevent the life-draining curse that afflicts you on the surface. This costs 2 Lotus, 2 Moss, 2 Nightshade, and 2 Thalamus at Hecate’s cauldron. Lotus can be found in the Oceanus region while Nightshade seeds can be dug out in Erebus. Moss can be found on the surface and you’ll need to find some before your health runs out. Remember that you need the Flourishing Soil incantation to access soil plots. As for getting to the surface, use the Permeation of Witching-Wards incantation.

You’ll need to stop the life drain on the surface to tackle bosses like Polyphemus and Eris while hunting for materials like Bronze and Moss in Ephyra. You can also sell them at the Wretched Broker for 19 Bones each. Check out our Hades 2 review to learn how these new resource systems influence the roguelike sequel. While no other incantation requires this resource, there’s no harm in keeping some in case Supergiant Games adds new incantations.
