A quick peek at the Hades 2 boss list and it’s clear Melinoe has her work cut out as she tries and tries again to bring ‘Death to Chronos.’ Barring her way is a rich roster of bosses, sure to bring a grim end to even the most optimistic runs. We wouldn’t expect anything else from Supergiant Games.
We’ll walk you through the full boss list in chronological order, whose constituent parts we bumped into more times than we’d like to admit for our Hades 2 Early Access review. If you’re struggling to make much progress, our tips and tricks beginner’s guide is packed with useful advice to make it out of Erebus in one piece. As always with these types of lists, there are spoilers ahead so tread carefully.
Headmistress Hecate
Headmistress Hecate, or the Witch of the Crossroads, is the very same concoction-brewing figure who you’ll first meet in the Crossroads hub area. She exists as a skill-check, both narratively as Melinoe’s mentor, but also mechanically, to make sure players are up to taking on the many enemies and challenges that lie beyond the first area. Your first encounter is likely to end in a swift death, but a few runs in, you’ll be more than equipped to deal with her well-telegraphed moveset. Just watch out for her curse, though, which will turn you into a bleating sheep.
Scylla and the Sirens
An aquatic band as a boss fight? Yep, classic Supergiant and the second boss you’ll meet in Hades 2. Though fronted by Scylla Scourge of the Seas, she’s sided by her two siren bandmates (a drummer and what appears to be a guitarist), meaning you’ll need to keep your wits about you as you dodge a deluge of AoE attacks, all to the rhythm of Oceanus’ finest musicians. Much like Hecate, the trio of Scylla and the Sirens will feel insurmountable at first, but repeat visits should mean curtains for the band soon enough.
Infernal Cerberus
Cerberus, the Hound of Hades, makes a return in Hades 2 as the third boss Melinoe has to contend with on her hunt for Chronos. However, rather than the more-or-less docile friend to Zagreus, the three-headed dog is now guardian of the Fields of Mourning, warped into Infernal Cerberus courtesy of Chronos’ machinations. He hits hard, fast, and will test all the skills you’ve learned up to this point, but as is the hallmark of Hades, repetition (and some solid Boons RNG) will eventually see you best him.
Chronos, Titan of Time
Chronos, Titan of Time, is the fourth and final boss in the Tartarus underworld portion of Hades 2. Two phases, pesky minions, massive AoE attacks, a tiny arena, deadly attacks that will fell Melinoe in one hit, not to mention all the bosses you’ll need to beat to reach him – Chronos will be a challenging rite of passage for all players. Oh and it’s worth mentioning that you can’t pause during the Chronos boss fight, him being the god of time and all. Thanks for that Supergiant.
The Cyclops Polyphemus
Over in Olympus, you’ll meet The Cyclops Polyphemus, a one-eyed pest that isn’t all that happy about Melinoe showing up. He isn’t letting her sneak past without a fight and intends on, well, eating the daughter of Hades. He might be a slow mover and trudges across the arena, but don’t be fooled, he packs a punch, not least because of his brutal AoE attacks and the numerous minions he summons to the fight.
Eris, Strife Incarnate
The sixth and final boss on offer in Hades 2 Early Access, Eris, Strife Incarnate lives up to her name as the winged goddess of strife and discord. She’s got no real skin in the game, but is scratching out some weird satisfaction by trying to thwart Melinoe’s climb to Olympus. Remember the automatic rifle-like Adamant Rail from Hades? Well, Eris has one of these weapons of her own, spewing out bullets in all directions, causing massive damage. Slim down her health bar and she’ll benefit from a hulking damage buff to spice things up. A real nightmare and the end to Hades 2’s current Early Access build.
