Ascenders are vertical movement items in Fortnite. These items allow you to quickly go up or down something, be it a mountain, a floating island, or something else. They have lines that go straight up and down for immediate travel to the opposite point.
Ascenders are seen pretty frequently around the map. Here are the most common locations you can find them on the island:
- Islands in the water
- Loot island when it spawns
- In Snooty Steppes
- At tall mountains
- On the bridges
If you’re at any of these spots, there are probably at least a couple of ascenders around. These are a much more efficient way to travel up or down. The alternative is to build up or go all the way around, but those are much slower and waste materials needlessly. How to use an ascender in Fortnite
Ascenders are pretty straightforward, but they can be problematic if you don’t do it correctly. This is especially important if you’re at the top and wish to go down. If you use it incorrectly, fall damage and perhaps even death is probable.

Do not try and jump onto the ascender from above and use it. It’s not like a zipline, as you will miss the ascender and begin falling. If you’ve done this at almost any place on the island, you will take quite a bit of fall damage and your game could end there. Always be safe rather than sorry.
When you get to an ascender, go right up next to it. It will prompt you to travel up or down with the appropriate button. Firmly standing on the ground, click that button and you will be sent to the next destination.
