Best ranged weapons in Fortnite
- Most of the current best ranged weapons are the Chapter 5 Mythics
- Waterbending can be incredibly powerful if you get used to the projectiles
- If you can’t hit headshots with the Reaper Sniper Rifle, try a DMR instead
Whether you’re a Fortnite pro or just getting started, you’re going to stand a much better chance of nabbing some victory royales if you’re using the best weapons. With so many weapons on offer, between pistols, SMGs, assault rifles and more, it’s a tough choice to know which weapons are worth using and which you should just avoid.
So if you’re looking for some help finding out what the best weapons are in the current Chapter 5 Season 2 build of the game, we’re here to help. We’ve put together our choices for the best ranged weapons right now that you can use to take down everyone in your path.
Best ranged weapons in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2
There are a few weapons that we think are head and shoulders above the rest in the current build of the game, with most of them being Mythics. Here is our list for the best ranged weapons in Fortnite:
- Hades’ Harbinger SMG
- Cerberus’ Gatekeeper Shotgun
- Ares’ Warforged Assault Rifle
- Zeus’ Huntress DMR
- Reaper Sniper Rifle
- Waterbending Scroll
Hades’ Harbinger SMG
Depending on who you ask, this could potentially be the outright best ranged weapon in Fortnite right now. It takes the already powerful Harbinger SMG, and adds some mods that reduce its recoil and increase accuracy, making it easier to aim and incredibly deadly. The regular version is worth using too, but the Mythic version is an absolute beast.
Killing Hades to earn it will also net you one of the Aspect of the Gods, which is handy.
Cerberus’ Gatekeeper Shotgun
Similar to the previous weapon, the Mythic version of the Gatekeeper Shotgun is also an excellent choice. It deals huge damage up close, fires fast, and reloads all of its shots at once. A great choice if you prefer a shotgun to an SMG or AR, and it’s worth using the non-Mythic version too.
Ares’ Warforged Assault Rifle
On its own, the normal Warforged Assault Rifle has issues with its recoil, and can be hard to use if you don’t find one with a scope. The Mythic version fixes this, making it much easier to aim with, dealing more damage and helping you net kills over a longer range. Not as good as the previous two, but a good option if you prefer to use an AR over an SMG or shotgun.
Zeus’ Huntress DMR
Just like the Warforged Assault Rifle, non-Mythic versions of this DMR may come without a scope, making it harder to aim. But the Mythic version will let you fully capitalise on its fully-automatic fire rate, letting good snipers demolish any enemy they come across. A strong choice, but if you’re after an out-and-out sniper, our next option is even better.
Reaper Sniper Rifle
If like to snipe, this is the gun you want to have. Headshots with one of these can be an insant kill, and in the right hands this can be the most powerful weapon in the game, especially if you come across a Legendary quality one. If you’re not consistent with headshots, a DMR might be better, but even a bodyshot with one of these hits hard.
Waterbending Scroll
As part of the Avatar crossover, one of the scrolls added to the game allows you to waterbend. Since the shots you fire are projectiles, it can be a little tough to get used to at first, but if you hit your shots, waterbending can let you take down enemies in a matter of seconds. It also doesn’t require ammo, so you don’t need to scavenge for supplies at all, letting you focus solely on getting the win.
It will also help you complete some of the quests in the Avatar crossover to open some of the Chakras, so it’s a win-win.
Of course, you don’t need any of these weapons to get wins, they’re just our recommendations. If you find yourself doing better with a weapon that isn’t here, you should stick with that, as the best weapon for you depends on your skills and playstyle.
