Best Fortnite hiding spots

  • The best hiding spots are in the centre of the map, far away from the storm.
  • Some hiding spots aren’t available in Zero Build as they require you to build floors or stairs.
  • Something as simple as a bush can be the perfect place to hide.

It can be frustrating to keep dying early on in games of Fortnite, especially if you’re looking to rank up. Managing to finish in the top 25, or even top 10 can net you some massive gains in both competitive rank and XP, so it’s in your best interest to make it as far as you can.

And the easiest way to avoid dying to other players is to avoid other players entirely. A good hiding spot can help you stay alive until only a few players are left, giving you the chance to clean up right at the end and get an easy victory royale. So if you’re chasing down that Unreal rank, we’ve put together our favourite hiding spots in Fortnite Chapter 5.

7 best hiding spots in Fortnite Chapter 5

There are good hiding spots all over the map, but the best ones are nearer to the centre. After all, there’s no point hiding somewhere in Coastal Columns if you’re going to have to leave once the storm hits. That’s why all of our spots are fairly central, so you’ll likely be safe right up until the end.

Some of our spots are not available in Zero Build unfortunately, as they require you to do a bit of building to make safe. We’ve also selected a couple of options that can be done in different parts of the map, so they aren’t marked on the map above, with our final choice being the easiest hiding place of all.

Restored Reels

To the north of Restored Reels is a small temple-like building. Head around to the back of it and you’ll see that the bottom wall is halfway inside the ground. Get your pickaxe out and smash up the left-hand wall, and you’ll be able to climb inside. It’s not perfect, but it’s a great location that most players won’t bother to check – just stay alert in case someone comes in.

It’s also a nice way to clear up some of the stone structures you need to destroy for one of the Earth Chakra quests.

Reckless Railways

On the northern side of the main station building at Reckless Railways are two little towers on either corner. Climb up or land on the roof and head to the western tower and enter the little door. Inside, you can mantle up onto a platform above you, which occasionally also has a chest for you to loot. If you want, you could even build a floor below you for extra cover.

West of Reckless Railways

Just over the river to the west of Reckless Railways is a small building with some toilet cubicles. If Reckless Railways is a bit too busy for you, an easy hiding place is to come in here and mantle into the closed cubicle. We had multiple players come in and completely ignore these cubicles, so they’re a good option if you’re low on health and need a quick hiding spot.

Fencing Fields

Head to the large house at the south of Fencing Fields and climb on the roof. Make your way to the northern side of the roof, specifically the corners closes to the door. Break the western corner with your pickaxe, and you’ll be able to crawl inside and walk all the way to the other side of the house – just make sure not to hit anything else and draw attention to yourself.

Central lake pier

There’s a small pier on the southern bank of the lake at the centre of the map. Head here and into the small room inside the building. Using your pickaxe, break the ceiling and mantle up to the other ceiling tile. Once up, build yourself a new floor to match the current material and you’re sorted. This is a great location and it’s incredibly central, so will last long into any match.

Avatar shrines

The new Avatar update added a bunch of shrines which can also be great hiding places. Enter any shrine (our pick is the one at the centre of the lake from the previous tip). Open the build menu and use the edit tool to make some stairs that are only one tile wide. Climb up the stairs and once you’re at the top, build yourself a floor to stand on and destroy the stairs.

If any players come in, it’s highly unlikely that they’re going to look up to see you waiting for them, so it’s a great option. Just be aware that these spots are often very busy at the start of games, so it might be worth coming here a bit later. There’s also a campfire nearby if you need to dust off that Fire Chakra quest.

Bushes

Sometimes, simplicity is king, and the noble bush is exactly that. Found in plenty of places across the map, you might be surprised at just how effective a bush is as a hiding place. We’ve won plenty of games by just heading to the centre of the map and crouching in a bush for 10 minutes. If you’re in a rush and need to hide pronto, you can’t get much better than this.

Of course, this list isn’t exhaustive and you’re sure to find some good hiding spots of your own if you poke around enough. These are simply our favourites because of how easy they are to use, and how close to the centre of the map they are.
